That price cmae straight from the parts dept at the dealership. 1 day delivery from order and the glass shop they use can do the replacment without damaging the trim piece.

Good luck getting a PPG windshield. The glass company that did my first replacement stated Toyota is not letting PPG distribute them, at least in the Washington DC area.
Another data point: I drove in to town (Fort Worth, TX) today for lunch and ran into a friend with an FJC. His windshield was being replaced today (hit by a golf ball) with a PPG WS for $350.00, so hopefully they are becoming more available. $350 seems way more earth-like than $1400.

I would love to know why Toyota can hold PPG at bay. I know the how, they do this by witholding the windshield molds that are used to make the windshields. That is what Diamond Autoglass told me.
This seems to wreak of a violation of monopoly laws if you ask me. Seems like Toyota is instituting an unfair trade practice by making owners purchase the OEM glass for astronomical prices. I still fail to understand why the window costs as much as it does even though it uses throw away body molding in light of the fact that PPG can offer a replacement at a third of Toyota's OEM price.

You would think that PPG has been in the business so long that they could take a stock windshield and make their own mold.
Good luck in your venture, let's hope the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
I'm going by the Stealer today to have their service department take a look at the crack and document it. Either they will replace it or this class action suit might get Toyota to wake the f up. I'll report back what happened.
