Cool Re: FJ Windshield Class Action Lawsuit Has Begun

I'm coming along late to this discussion- and purposely SKIPPED 50 pages of posts! EEKS!

But... I've owned two Elements (Still have an '07) and now an '07 FJ.

Here's the deal- Both the FJ and the Element have VERTICAL windshields. It's like driving a plate glass window down the highway flat-side first. (That's why, among other things, they both get relatively poor mileage.)

Now go look at a Prius windshield. Lays back at about a 30 degree angle, which is why they never break- and ONE of the reasons a Prius gets 50+MPG.

Here's my simple, no-hassle solution. Just go buy $0 deductible comprehensive insurance on your FJ as I do on mine- and on my Element. It's like $10-$20 PER YEAR!!!

If your windshield breaks- your insurance company buys a new one. Period.

I have NEVER carried $0 deductible comp on any other vehicles, but it's stupid not to on a box-vehicle with a vertical windshield because you can COUNT on needing a new windshield every year or two- maybe every 6 months.

End of story,

Steve

I guess we could debate forever. It doesnt matter if you are talking about a w/s or an explosion - you lambaste the class action in general, but then go on to say bring it on for a problem you perceive to be real.

I dont know what to tell you on how many cracked w/s you have had versus me. I have 162k miles on my 15 year old pickup with a perfectly fine w/s, so no it doesnt happen to every single car out there - in fact, not even close. Every single person I have ever talked to about this hasnt had any problems with their w/s, so I dont really know what to say about that. You can't tell me my experiences are wrong. If you're okay with having to replace 9 w/s in 4 years on cars you personally drive - more power to you. But I assure you that is not the norm - unless, again it is demographics and they put gravel on the roads where you live or something.

And it's not wear and tear. Wear and tear is defined as something that necessarily wears out or tears up over time - like brakes, tires, oil.

As I have said ad nauseum, I can accept a cracked w/s from a impact - I can not accept my w/s cracking with no impact or very minimal impact. The glass guy that I told you said it looked like a stress crack has no dog in the fight, so why would he tell me that? He gets paid whether it was from a rock or not. I guess you'd probably try to refute him too.

And sorry bud - I dont believe anyone can make 9 - Nine - 9 comprehensive claims without having your rates raised or being dropped. Insurance companies don't replace things that are wear and tear. Did you make a claim for your oil change, brake job, tires? of course not.
Did you try and sue the doctor when he took a bit too much off when he snipped you? 'Cause you sure rationalize like he did just that.

Rocks+Glass+Speed=Broken. I can't simplify the issue any more for you, and apparently as simple as any one can make it, others are still looking for a free hand out.

And yes, count it with me 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 & Finally 9 broken or severely cracked windshields that have been replaced, for free (or at least as free as paying my monthly can be) and have not had word one about an increase, a drop, or a no glass coverage. And guess what, I never once had to cry for a lawyer to come save me from the evils of reality. Have fun feeding the leaches.

Here, here is another explanation just in case you can't read and comprehend the english language as I type it.

Exclamation Re: FJ Windshield Class Action Lawsuit Has Begun

Look at the bottom center of the windshield...
a warning plainly states "THIS SIDE OUT".
One will have to get a Japanese language book because it's in Japanese writing. That is where the confusion comes into play.
Always drink Kirin whilst working on an Fj...it's in the manual.

I had a neighbor asking how I liked mine. He's looking at a white 2008. I showed him my 3 cracks (in the windshield..). I also warned him about the blind spot and having to stop 50 prior to an intersection to see the lights.
You sir, dragged me into this convo. I tried, and tried to avoid this, but I can't thanks to you. LOL, ARE YOU STUPID? You told your neighbor about the "blind spots" and "stoping 50ft before a intersection to see the lights." ONE MORE TIME LOL. First off, ADJUST your mirrors to show your blindspots, not your reflection or your side panel, line 2 cars up on each side of your vehcile entering your blind spots and adjust your mirrors to see them, are take your FJ to advanced auto parts and get 2inch adjustable blind spot mirrors and OMG your no longer blind. Plus, the 50ft thing, I DONT KNOW, MAYBE I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO SEES THE WHITE LINES BEFORE THE INTERSECTION WERE IT IS EFFICIENT TO STOP FOR BOTH YOU AND PEOPLE CROSSING, VIA WALKING OR DRIVING. I may not be the best grammer guy , but seems I have common sense.
