You think the FJ gets bad gas mileage now? Try towing with it!!!

Pulled my boat 72 miles today never exceeding 60mph and never getting on it and it took me HALF A TANK!!!! So by my calculations you get 9 MPG TOWING!! My boat is not big nor heavy, small skiing boat. So since it is about 380 miles to the river it is going to cost me $150 in gas EACH each way and THREE stops of getting gas to get there..... This is my only complaint about this vehicle, too small of a gas tank and HORRIBLE gas mileage. My old Ford truck would cost me 1 gas tank each way, but it was a 25 gallon tank. Also the Fj has MORE HP than my truck so I don't get it....

That's why I think a diesel option would be best...more HP, more torque...and less maintainance.

Wonder why Canada is getting a diesel option and the US market is getting shut out of the deal?

Because there is no money in diesel!! Why do you think companies like Brazil can have optional fuel options but America can't? Because corporate America pays people off to prevent, there is no money in it.

Re: You think the FJ gets bad gas mileage now? Try towing with it!!!

You are right...when moving to NC from Colorado and towing a loaded 6x12 enclosed trailer I was lucky to get 8-9mpg. Combined with the small tank I was stopping every 125-150 miles.

Re: You think the FJ gets bad gas mileage now? Try towing with it!!!

back in 1980 MY FAther inlaw had a 1980 F250 with a 429 in it, 2 - 20gallon tanks when we got to the lake on the way back we had to switch tanks. when we got home we had to filler up again. this was about 70 to 80 mile trip one way. but the truck pulled the boat , no problems. we used to have to filler up one way , sort of like ride sharing. lol

I know gas was cheaper then, but so was the pay scales. so In the event we do not like the mileage on the fj towing a boat. I guess we could look at it this way, fj pulls like no problems. love it.
