yeah, but it would suck to walk around and say " hey guys i just bought a BJ!".

In the Land Cruiser world, there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with this. It is the pinnacle of Land Cruiser ownership actually. But it is funny to say, and then see the looks on other people's faces.

This is definitely the truth though. Yes the "J" does stand for Jeep. It sickens me, but it is true, and only describes the body style. "F" for some reason stands for gas engine. and the "B" designates a diesel engine. After the 70 series the engine designation did change though. Damn near bought a BJ70 this year myself, but lost the deal

For more history lessons, hit up IH8MUD.com .Plenty of info there, especially in the 25 series section. For civilian use that is the true 1st Land Cruiser series!

Re: what does FJ stand for?

I also searched a while for the meaning of the FJ designation... Once while driving in rural MO I stopped at a country store. An old geezer (even older then me...) asked what I was driving. After I told him he asked if I knew what the FJ stood for... At that time I didn't. So, he enlightened me by saying it stood for "first japan". Hmmm!

Not quite as colorful as other definitions, but interesting all the same!

happy trails--take only photographs, leave lot's of memories

Re: what does FJ stand for?

in year 1950, only SUV that successfully Off-road over mountain named FuJi in Japan is FJCruiser. That's why it's FJ-Cruiser.
Mountain FUJI is always covered in snow on top, that is why FJCruiser has white tops.
