4 Wheeling America

Hey everybody, if you haven't already noticed this, the Toyota FJ Website recommends the 4 Wheeling America Course. I just took it down in Virginia. Bill Burke did a great course. I was the only FJ, there were 2 Jeeps, 5 Rovers (including Bill's) and an Xterra. Everyone learned something. I never realized how much I didn't know until then. Also, the FJ amazed me (and some of the others), its only real fault was the Bridgestones and my lack of experience. All in all, money well spent and a great time. When I get some pics, I'll post.

Pop quiz (learned from a Land Rover guru):

Your in mud, momentum is lost and your losing traction fast.

What do you do?

Let's see, ease off the gas and then "blip' the throttle, maybe a couple of times if necessary, sound about right? I make no claims to be a subject matter expert, just an enthusiest still learning and recommending a good course (4 Wheeling America).

keep the RPMs up and steer quickly from side to side, the spinning wheels will dry the mud a little allowing you to gain traction.

Got to learn this first hand trying to go up a steep muddy hill in Area 5 at Hollister, I was amazed.

I also learned this from a land rover / FJ TT guru.

Re: 4 Wheeling America

You know, that's in Bill's curriculum after first trying the "BLIP" Method, unless I am mistaken. Also, your end statement is one he also uses, as slow as you can and as fast as necessary. Again, so much to learn about off-roading and my FJ, plus the fun factor, Oh Yeah!!!
