Gotta vent..

Ok, so after listening to all of your advice I took my FJ to a detailer to get those scratches out and get the smoke spots out and "regloss" that door that had been keyed...well...they did it 230$...it was in a parking garage so it's very hard to see heres the aftermath...

Apparently they used a metalscrub to get the smokespots out of the tinted windows\windows, which put quite a few scratches on the windows, then multiple times they went to high and to low on the rear tint windows which scratched up the paint A LOT, then they BUFFED my rear wiper damaging it, then they used the metal scrub on the friggin' metal areas (above front windows etc) which scratched up that metal, it's pretty ***!in' sad when you pay 230$ to get a car detailed at a nice place (they normally clean bmws, etc) and they do a suck job!

The problem is I drove out, I didn't notice it in the parking lot garage but right I got outside of my car at my house (in the sun) it was VERY noticeable, so now I have to go back at 8:00 A.M. to get them to buffed out the scratches on the paint, and replace the rear wiper, and then somehow get the scratches out of the metal (if that's even possible!) Has this crap ever happened to you guys? It seems no matter what GOD wants my FJ to magically get scratched up, I've only had it for a few months and this crap keeps happening! I mean WTF? Do all of you have THIS much trouble keeping your FJ clean and scratch free?!?!? BLAH!

Re: Gotta vent..

Desert pin strips are fine with me. My rock rails and front skid plate are trashed. Both sides of my car look like I drove it through a cholla field. As long as there is no body damage or some a-hole doesn't key it, I'm fine with it.

Re: Gotta vent..

If I did it myself I wouldn't be mad. But lets look at this... first, I got keyed, then I take it to someone to spiffy it up after being keyed, what happens? It gets even MORE scratched up, NOT by me, so I am PISSED. And please correct me if I'm wrong, but is it even possible to remove those scratches from the metal (around the windows) ? I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to go to a body shop and get new metal pieces and send him a bill...it does look pretty crappy right now, VERY obvious that they are scratched up...he pretty much buffed all of the metal with one of those metal scrubs...trust me, it looks bad, I'll get pics later if I can find the camera.

Re: Gotta vent..

Sorry, i totally understand. Got keyed myself - just focused on covering it up with cool scratches.

No clue about the metal - just a girl here....

Re: Gotta vent..

I've had other cars jacked by detailerz who suck. Stinks when you've laid out good $ for a service and they can't seem to get what they do for a living done right on your $30K vehicle.

Re: Gotta vent..

Savage, Sounds like they put the new kid on it. Driving out was your first mistake. When you go back in the morning make sure you jump up and down and wave your hands high in the air until they make good on the damage.

Re: Gotta vent..

Savage - next time, do the work yourself. If your into keeping your car in ship shape, I highly suggest you take sometime and visit Griotts garage website. This is what the pro's use and any monkey can do it, and do it well. They can even provide you with a DVD for a complete "how to". A good buffer/polisher, the right products, and some patience, you will be good to go.

In the meantime, sorry for the stretch of bad luck your having with the FJ. Try and look on the bright side, he first scrach you get on the trail will seem minimal now.

Re: Gotta vent..

Just drive it through scrub and briars. The key marks aren't noticiable and it looks like you use your FJ for its intended purpose.
