headliner- is this true

I read in the NY Times yesterday, on Future Cars- there was an article on new gadgets and technology in the new cars. They said that the headliner on our FJ are made of new kind of material to act as a speaker / woofer of some sort due to the limited space in the vehicle. So Toyota design this new material for the headliner which conducts sound better for the speakers. Something to that affect. I'll see if I can find that article.
Anyone heard this before.

The FJ has NXT NXT Sound - Home transducers in the headliner. It serves as kind of a fill-in pair of speakers.

Fade your radio to the rear and tilt your head and you can hear them between the door edge and roof light.

Note to Toyota from a buyer with the cool space-age headliner: Ditch the cool space-age headliner, put back the speakers and maybe a small amp. I want my stero back.

The stereo is a joke, but they had to do something to get the price down.

Re: headliner- is this true

I have already disconnected mine because they distorted after upgrading to an aftermarket system. A total gimmick IMO.

How do you disconnect the headliner speakers?
