U.S. Navy 1989-1993.
On station in the Persian Gulf on the USS Whipple during Desert Storm and Desert Sheild. Returned a year later on the USS Fanning.
Both ships are Frigates, anti-submarine platforms. I worked on the Firecontrol Radars and Computers (Firecontrol meaning guns and missles, not a fireman) I also worked on the Phalanx or CIWS, looks like R2D2 and has a Vulcan 20mm gun (Gattlin style with 6 barrels) fires Depleted Uranium bullets, cool gun.
Thanks to all military personnel. Former, current and future! It does not matter what our job was, it takes all different jobs to make the USA the best military might in the world!

Navy here!!! Was in from 93-97. Work on aircraft and spent some time in the Gulf enforcing the no fly for Saddam after the first gulf war. It was real hot up there by Iraq. But hey I got to see the world and I had fun, as much fun that could be had on a carrier in the middle of the ocean.
Mine is the same as above except I got out in 1996. Spent my time in V1 division on the USS America CV-66
US Navy 1962-66, Midway Island, USS Oriskany CVA-34. 1 tour in the South China Seas in Vietnam. I went into the Navy before we got into Vietnam. Wouldn't trade that time for anything.

I was in straight out of Highschool from 7/2000-10/2003. I was 3rd Bgd 3rd ID, 2/69 Armor battalion Ft Benning Ga During the intial invasion in Iraq. I have spent a few years in the Kuwait/Iraq Theater as a soldier and now as a civilian. I can't say I had as much fun as some others on this forum, but it was definately an experience and I have a few stories to tell. I just got back from doing a year as a civilian contractor up-armoring the HMMWVs. It was a very rewarding year. I would see completely blown up vehicles, and then shake the hands of ALL the soldiers that were inside, Good Stuff.
With the knowledge that I will probably never meet 99.9% of the people on this board I offer up an e-hand shake and very sincere Thank You for your service in protecting our freedom no matter your role, length of tour or theater of service. I once meet a WW-II B-29 belly-gunner and regret that I wasn't able to sit down and listen to everything he wanted to say as I was working... I was able to say my thanks to him though and I try to make sure that all who have served that I meet get at least a thanks and hand shake.

Back to you
