Accident Resolution 'gun sight' camera

OK - is there anyone who hasn't ever had an accident, or near accident, where your side of the story was less than fully believed? Thought not.

So, I'm looking for a small, simple self contained video camera, which takes a video loop. If you have an incident, just push a button to save the last 5 minutes of recording. Now you have evidence to backup your side of the story. Ideally, it would record a minimum of 5 minutes before overwriting at the beginning of the previous 5 minutes.

It should be small so as to be able to mount on a visor, dashboard, or back of mirror, and point forward with a wide angle view.

Just haven't been able to find one that does all this. The key, missing element is the ability to loop. All the cameras require erase & reuse before recording again. Or, you have to stop the camera before starting again, which is of course hard to do every so often while driving.

I have seen commercial units which do this, but they cost $1000 and have under the seat electronics, and other issues.

Anyone know of some way to do this economically?

Economically?? Doubtful. You're talking about an automobile version of a video image "black box."

I just saw one of these things in an in flight catalog on a US Airways flight.
Sky Mall is what the catalog is called. It priced around $80. Good luck.

on the new police vehicle cameras they cycle two minutes prior to you turning on the blue lights. but to me sounds like someone has been in way too many accidents to be thinking about all of this.

your car already does this but does not provide an image. it records speed, braking, throttle position, rpm, etc.....

Re: Accident Resolution 'gun sight' camera

Just carry around a stock image of a woman talking on her cellphone while driving, not so close that you can see her face. This should suffice for 85% of the accidents you'll be in. Might want to have one for different hair colors, and a few guy ones too.

Re: Accident Resolution 'gun sight' camera

Thanks for replies. Just an idea.

What motivated it was last year, my wife was stopped in a parking lot, waiting for car in front of her to move on. Then some idiot backs out into her. The backer outer apologizes. Then, when insurance gets involved, the backer outer changes the story and blames my wife, who was not moving. Fortunately, the insurance co. agreed to pursue. They used damage photos to prove my wife's story, and other (lying) person's insurance had to pay 100%.

So many stupid things happen all the time...

Camera would be nice to have, but aren't losing sleep over it.

Guess I'll just wait for loop recording to be added as another feature on easonably priced digital cameras sometime in the future.
