I lived a half mile from the hino assembly plant. And I bought hino trucks and busses for the air force. Great company. If you search the forum you will find that this is not new information.
For what it's worth, I spoke with one of the service managers at my local dealership and he told me that the FJ is one of only three Toyota models completely produced in Japan, and is the one model they have the least problems with.
This is like saying "Lemon Sprite is not made by Sprite...its made by coke, BURN THE HERETICS AND BLASPHEMERS AT THE STAKE"
Same thing with the Jeep. Jeep is not owned by Jeep, its owned by Chrysler, Chrysler was owned by Daimler, and now ****ing FIAT.
Long story short, Its not who made it or where it was made. It is HOW it was made. Id buy a FJ from the Wesboro Baptist Church if it were made properly.....then load it with pounds of C4 and Nails then drive it through the front door. But thats another story.
I have seen an FJ being towed. I have never seen at the dealer for repair or in any other shop for that matter. The dealer mechanic didm;t know (poop) about mine and his excuse was that he never works on them.
As mentioned Hino is Toyota's heavy truck company so yeah it's still Toyota. Look inside the door jamb of a Subaru and youre likely to see "Fuji Heavy Industries", same thing.
Maybe we should contact Hino Motors about succeeding from Toyota. They could continue manufacturing the FJ on their own. I would gladly subscribe to being the first Hino Dealer in Kansas, and further suggest that I'd manager the mid-continent division.
Toyota had the great vision to build the FJ, but they have lost focus and patience to continue marketing the vehicle. Don't they know sales will be steady for years to come. Eventually we will need to replace ours (say another 10-15 years), but in the meantime our children know the value of this vehicle and will want their own. This vehicle is not a fad, it is best built multi-purpose vehicle on the road. What other vehicle for under 40 grand can you drive 500-600 miles (no back pain) and then shift into 4 Lo and tackle the terrain of Colorado Mining and Moab sandstone trails? Hino - reconstruct the assembly line for the FJ.
