Adding Fuse Block

If you are like me many of the mods you are making to your FJ involve adding electrical circuits. In general this is not complicated but under the wrong circumstances tapping into the vehicles electrical system can lead to problems that may have an effect on your vehicles other electrical components and may even effect your warranty. Avoiding these issues is as easy as adding a Secondary Fuse Block or SFB.

Painless Circuit Boss
-This unit has 7 total circuits, 4 switched, 3 constant
-Installation is easy and straightforward
-Comes pre wired with plenty of wire to reach anywhere under the dash or on
the front console.
-30 AMP fuse included

Installation

I chose to locate the fuse block on the firewall between the steering column and the large rubber grommet leading to the engine comppartment. I used the supplied mounting blocks and screwed through the firewall. NOTE One of the mounting screws is run through the ground eye and is the main ground for the fuse block, I chose to also run a ground jumper to a bolt unuder the dash. Note also that I chose to mount the block so that the main wire bundle runs straight up under the dash.

Power Hookup

Running the power line is pretty straight forward. I ran the main power line through the firewall at the large rubber grommet wherre the hood release runs. Once through I mounted the supplied 30 AMP Fuse on the fender well and using the supplied terminal I attatched the wire to the fuse. Two more supplied terminals and the wire is attatched to the other side of the fuse and up to the Pos terminal of the battery. I may switch out the fuse to an in line blade fuse in the future to make changing a blown fuse a little easier. The second and last wire you need to hook up is to a switched circuit on the main electrical system of the FJ. TO do this I just found an unused fuse location on the fuse blco that was switched and plugged in an add a tap and wired the new fuse block to that. What this does is when you turn on the switch the power turns on a relay on the new fuse block and that turns on power to the 4 switched circuits.

Run Wiring

All that is left is to run the 7 new circuits you now have where you need them. So far I have run a constant and a switched circuit into the center console using them for added 12 V plugs, CB, Backup camera

That is all there is to it! This unit is available almost anywhere. My local Advanced Auto matched Summit's price and had it for me in two days and no shipping cost. $68.00 Pretty cheap insurance against damage to your electrical system. I hope this helps

Re: Adding Fuse Block

Which open slot did you use for your switched power, got a pic of the fuse box to show the location?

Got I am not sure which slot I used, I just checked the empty slots with a test light until I found one that was switched. No pics of the fuse box

Re: Adding Fuse Block

I just looked at it, lower row on the fuse block, second spot from the right. Turns out if you look at the panel that you take off to get at the fuses, it is marked as ACC 7.5 Amp

Re: Adding Fuse Block

I bought it at Advanced Auto, they did not stock it, but got it for me in 3 days. You can find it at Summit and Jegs too. the part number is on the picture of the packaging in my first post.

Re: Adding Fuse Block

Uodate. I removed the fuse block from the fire wall and mounted it on a plate that bolts to the extended studs on the left side of the steering column. Thanks to Shadow for the idea of the plate.

Re: Adding Fuse Block

Wouldn't happen to have an extra plate would you? That seems like the perfect place to mount my fuse block.
