If you already told me before, I apologize . . . . what S.O. were you with? SF? San Mateo? Marin?
SFSD.
BTW, almost the only way you can get a CCW in SF is to be retired SFSD or SFPD. It's a "NO ISSUE" jurisdiction and I'm not even sure other retired LEOs can get one in SF (they probably can), but you'll have to have some very good connections to get one if you're a civilian (in fact, the only civilian employee in SFSD that I know has one got it elsewhere).

But being a retired peace officer gives you the OK to be CCW with your ID anywhere in the US (HR 218)....right?
Yes, but they issued me 2 different CCWs, which is really just a different form of SFSD ID. The first was the regular Sheriff's ID with the retired and CCW designation which is good in CA for 5 years. The second was the LEOSA CCW, which is good in all 50 states, but only for 1 year, because the act requires requalification every year.
Even though you have a LEOSA CCW, you still have to abide by the laws of the jurisdiction that you're in and that could cause some problems. For example, guns are not permitted in National Parks, so even though I can carry a gun into Utah, I can't legally bring that gun into Bryce, Zion, Arches or Canyonlands. Certain jurisdictions have no provisions regarding concealed carry (WI, IL & DC, I believe). Federal law should prevail in those jurisdictions, but you'd probably have to argue the point. There are also certain "gun free" zones (like schools) where you may not carry concealed or otherwise. You also cannot carry firearms on an airplane (there are active duty exceptions) and have to abide by TSA and airline rules. So, CCW or not, you need to be aware of the applicable laws anywhere you carry your weapon concealed.
In the exteme, I maintain the belief that it is better to be "judged by 12 than carried by 6," but that doesn't mean you won't get yourself into a whole pile of "sh*t" if you get caught violating a federal or state gun law. In that situation, your CCW will be revoked and you may be liable for criminal (and possibly civil) penalties. Not a good thing. So, make sure you know the law before you carry concealed anywhere.

Since the FJ has a tendency to draw certain professions as their owners, I'm curious who else out there is a fellow LEO with an FJ Cruiser. (I've seen at least a half dozen of ya so far.)
Post up if you're a cop (active / retired / former) with an FJ and why you bought it. Your agency(s)? Let's see some on-duty pics.
I am a disabled Deputy Sheriff (I am only 40)-on duty injury (Ohio). After my injury, we moved to Vermont, then my wife got a job in North Carolina (current location).
I will be buying my FJ at the end of this year, or right in the beginning of January of next year.
At the present time I own a Rubicon, and to be honest, I am not that much into off roading (but I like to have the 4 wheel capability in case I need it).
I was going to buy a regular Wrangler, however with my LE Discount, and some incentives, I bought the Rubicon.
I don't like to buy the same car over and over, I like change. My Rubicon is an 04 (just payed it off as well
I like the FJ for its looks, size, and because Toyota is such a great vehicle (plus it's 4 wheel drive-in case I need it, or go visit the mountains, or someone in the snowbelt.
I also need the spacing for my dogs (German Shepherd and Border Collie/Shepherd mix).
If spacing wasn't an issue, I would actually consider the Subaru Impreza WRX STI (I had the WRX in the past, and loved it)-STI version is much nicer.
If I could afford it, I would actually like to own a Landrover Defender.
Location: AZ boy (temporarily) transplanted to southeast GA.

Ya know Steve, on my Mustang forum, I started an "Ask a Cop" thread. It had rules like no cop bashing and we will NOT tell you how to get out of a ticket (but we will tell you how to avoid one). Maybe have one of those type threads here since most parts of the North American Continent are represented by LE? Just a suggestion....
Great suggestion, Dave.
Matter of fact, why don't you kick off such a thread in OT (and include the above mentioned disclaimers/rules).
Hey Blaksheep - do you have a high-res pic of that? I'd love to print it out and hang it over my desk at the station!
Dave,
I've got a copy of this somewhere....let me work on it and I'll get it to ya. Just need to sort through my laptop and desktop. I just ripped that one from a buddy's "crack"book (aka facebook) site.
