If you have a driver side door rattle or squeek, listen up....

I had a rattle that was driving me crazy! It sounded like it was coming from right behind my head, like from the rear door or maybe from the column that houses the seatbelt. I took it to the dealer and the heard it, but wanted the car for a few hours to do some testing. I envisioned them "testing" my vehicle by driving it around.... no thanks.

I went home. I had concluded that I could make it stop by applying pressure to the door panel. I was prepared to take the door panel off to see what I could find. Upon examination, I noticed that there is a plastic piece in the door jam, just below the metal "U" bolt that the door locks into when it closes. I'm not sure what this little plastic piece does, but it floats in and out, depending on whether the door is open or not. Check it out, it is very loose. I jammed a piece of paper in, underneath it, and the noise has disappeared. So, I found the problem. Now I just need to find a more permanent fix. Hope this helps anyone with the "door rattle problem".

Thank you for the info! Mine only rattles when wheeling or on rough roads, but if this is the cause, it will worry me less.

Joe, is this something the dealer would fix for free. I suppose warranty covers it. Im not a very handy person and so I would like to have somebody fix it and I figured Toyota should do it. I have the same problems. I thougth it was the folding back seats. It's annoying...

The only thing I could hear in my Disco was the howling of the Goodyear MT/R's.....probably because of a lack of a CD player as it was on the fritz. I was unlucky enough to have the Pioneer changer before they changed to the Alpine made unit. Other than that my Disco was tight, and at 197K I didn't think that was too bad.

Man, I have complained about this from day one, nobody knows how to fix it. it's driving me nuts I have to turn my stereo on just so I won't hear it.

I have a small rattle in the area of my driver side doors too. I was guessing that it may be in the seatbelt mechanism, but I'll check the plastic thing you are talking about.
