If you bought them from ITunes they will not currently let you change them from a protected AAC file type.

Try to burn a disc using only tracks from non-ITunes sources such as CD rips.

Let me know if those work.

Re: MP3 help!

If you did buy them from iTunes, just rip them to an audio disk and then import them back in as MP3s.

Hey Rip,

I think Apple may have changed something in the newest version of their code because I attempted to put some new stuff I bought from ITunes on an audio CD using Toast and it won't let me.

I can do older downloads from Itunes but not the newer ones.

Re: MP3 help!

itunes doesn't suck -- the problem is the files you have are probably .AAC files and not MP3 files.

This is because this is the default file format iTunes uses when importing songs from CD (it sounds better than MP3 with smaller file sizes)

To fix this, go to preferences, under "advanced" click on "encoding" -- change from AAC to MP3 (there are 3 quality settings)

Then once you have done that, you can select all your music (as long as it wasn't bought from itunes) and then click "advanced" and then click "convert to MP3" -- works like a charm, did it the other day to make an MP3 CD for my FJ.

NOTE: while it is converting your songs, do not unselect the songs this way, when you are done you can press "apple+delete" and it will delete only your previously selected AAC files -- that way you won't have duplicates of both AAC and MP3.

Plus... I think this is probably a little more helpful than "itunes sucks use limewire" if you have a lot of music that you don't feel like downloading again.

Re: MP3 help!

Thanks iamnid,
I'll try this tomorrow....Thanks for the advice, and please check back so that I can chat if I have more problems....How many tracks could you put on a CD and then how do the folders work? Anyone that doesn't use itunes just doesn't understand the beauty of the Mac world....The nerve and language of some blogers in here is a shame. I'm not even going to ask what limewire is anyway...

Re: MP3 help!

Just trying to help -- you can always send me a personal message if you need help.

I haven't tried folders yet but it can be done - I just did giant playlists.

Depending on the length of the songs I got about 175 songs on each disc.

Limewire isn't so bad -- but all it's good for is getting the songs, it is a file sharing program like Napster was... you'd still need itunes or another type of jukebox program to organize your tunes and burn discs.
