Total Usable Fuel Volume

I searched the forum and the best I could come up with is that one forum member put in 18.2 gallons during a fill up. But he/she didn't actually run out of gas.

I normally pay for gas with a debit card, so when the nozzle shuts off automatically, I don't put in any more after that (I never top-off). I feel it's just wasting time to do that.

I suspect that others do the same...when the nozzle shuts off, put it back in the pump.

Anybody get more than 18.2 gallons in before the nozzle shut off?

Or has anybody actually run it dry, and then put in a gallon or so to get to the gas station, and then fill it to see how much total it took to fill it?

Re: Total Usable Fuel Volume

I get around 15.2 mpg average. Once I've ran about 45 more miles, after the light came on.. I think it was still a little less than 17 gal. we have a 3 or 4 gal. reserve.

Re: Total Usable Fuel Volume

I have checked mine for when the light goes on and it has taken 16.2 gals all three times.

Re: Total Usable Fuel Volume

I've put a full 72 litres in mine which is 19.7 U.S. gallons. I am assuming that the U.S gas tank is the same size as the Canadian.

Re: Total Usable Fuel Volume

My fuel light came on today and I was at a gas station with 2 miles of the light coming on. I had the nozzle on the lowest flow setting and once it clicked off I pulled it out. It took 15.441 gallons. That's the most I've ever pumped in after the light came on. Leaving 3.36 gallons left, but not all of that is accessible by the fuel pump.
