Sandi - is the distance between the rear of the FJ and the gear box on the trailer have sufficient room to open the rear door when hooked up?

KLD:

You can open it about 24" only. But it's enough.

Re: Towing and the FJ

FYI. I've got a hudson trailer that probably weighs 1k and I took my FJ to New Kennsington, PA and picked up a 79 FJ 40. Then I went to Clarksville, TN to pick up a 1990 Suzuki Samurai. FJ pulled like a dream through the mountains and everywhere.

Fuel mileage pulling the trailer was 14 mpg empty and 10 loaded. Ran on 87 octane and ran like a dream. Installed a trailer brake to be safe but really didn't need it.

Re: Towing and the FJ

I thought opening the rear door while trailering would be tough too but to my surprise it opened all the way up without a problem.

Your mileage may vary, pun intended, but I was trailering a uhaul trailer. Also, for those concerned with the door hitting on other trailers, couldn't you just buy a hitch with a longer drop? Maybe 3"? Just a thought from a newb...
