Cleaning stickiness

So, I spilled some gatorade on the shifter, and was in too much of a hurry and lacked sufficient paper towels to clean it right away.

Now I have dried, sticky gatorade spackled around the interior, and namely the shifter (5AT). The thing that bothers me is now the shifter has a little resistance between Park and Reverse, I was wondering if anyone had insight on the best way to clean this?

thanks

Might be overkill but will definitely work.

Re: Cleaning stickiness

I tried lots of junk on one of my cars, the thing that fixed all was a McCullough steam cleaner (can get it at Harbor Freight for $89).

Disassemble what you can and steam the parts, careful not melt things, soda junk should go away pretty easy. If you are where there are some lubricants, be sure to replace them, grease or whatever may be there.

I use that steam cleaner at least once a month, USE DISTILLED WATER, or junk will build up in the tank. Works excellent on tile and grout too.

Re: Cleaning stickiness

i would worry about solevents and goof off on the silver interior panels such as the shifter and some other parts. use a good interior cleaner such as the one from malco.

Re: Cleaning stickiness

Just use windex or 409 or some other household cleaner. I keep some baby wipes in a ziplock under the drivers' seat because I drink coffee while driving, fairly frequently, and sometimes it spills in the cupholder.

A clean old toothbrush works well for detailing.
