Air from vents is too warm ...

It's 65 degrees out, but the air coming in from the vents is about 10-12 deg warmer even with the temp knob turned all the way to cold (but with the AC off). I checked with a digital thermometer - plus it does feel warm too.

Turning on the AC fixes this but I hate having to use the AC when the outside temperature is 65 degrees. I know that the air get routed around and it's supposed to warm-up a bit, but it should not be warm when outside is cool. I think that there might be something wrong with my temp controller.

Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks,

Alberto

I thought the same thing. But here in the desert it is always hot. Now that it is cooling down I will have to see if it still feels to warm.

Re: Air from vents is too warm ...

i think you must have some serious UV going on there and the radiant heat in the metal must be blowing it warmer. because if you notice the vent intakes are right in front of your wipers. Have you also checked your in cabin filter behind the glovebox to make sure it is also clean? hope this might give you a new view on it.

Re: Air from vents is too warm ...

Mine does that too sometimes. Just noticed it recently. Turning the air on and then back off fixes it. Not sure why this is. I thought maybe just the heat of the FJ but it seems to keep blowing until air is turned on and then off. I though maybe it had something to do with me driving to work with the vent between hot and cold and then switching to cold on the way home. I thought this was weird. Glad I am not the only one.

Yea, that kind of makes since. Mine is black also. Probably gets a little hotter.

Re: Air from vents is too warm ...

I've noticed this occasionally as well but only after the truck had been sitting out in the heat for an extended amount of time or if I drove it awhile and then it sat for an hour or so. The problem normally goes away after driving a short distance with just the vent on the medium setting. The air gets colder quicker with the AC on briefly. The problem hasn't been as bad since I changed my cabin filter as was suggested earlier in this thread.

Re: Air from vents is too warm ...

How often do you guys think we should be changing the cabin filter? I have serious allergies and that was one of the features that I found to be very good with the FJs. Mine is 15 almost 16 months old and I have a little over 18k on it.

Re: Air from vents is too warm ...

There is a recommended interval in the owners manual but I'd say at least once a year, more if you take your rig of road and / or in dusty conditions. It's very easy to do.

Hey, I discovered the AC on, then off, also but I thought I was either imagining things or just feeling the residual cool from the AC. I try not to use the trick, though, because I've been told that AC compressors are not "too fond" of quick on/off cycles.
