FJ running a bit funky after some mud/water?

merry x-mas.

someone help me.

I've been running through about foot high mud puddles on various trails and little spots in my area for about a week. The kind of fun stuff where the water/mud splashes up about 30 feet in the air. Good times. Needless to say, I got my entire ride very dirty. I cleaned it all down, back to new, looks great.

I took the powerwasher and got as much of the undercarriage as I could but it's still not perfect.

Now, for some reason, my idle sounds a bit strained. Like maybe the pulleys aren't clean, or the timing is off. Something, but it doesn't sound smooth like it should. It also feels like a very slight vibration on the gas pedal when I give it some gas that wasn't there before. Nothing life shattering or scary, but just very slight that you'd only notice if you drove it all the time.

Is this possibly some mud in the engine compartment that needs to be cleaned out? if so, how?

I am cleaning out the air filter tonight but I pulled the filter today and it didn't look too terrible other than some residual dried dirt in there.

I'm just basically being paranoid that it's something bad. Make it all better Santa Claus. Thank you

I think the pulleys would be a likely suspect.

Your timing is not "off". Something has some crud in it.

You said it yourself, the pulleys aren't clean.

Clean them.

That should help for the most part.

Re: FJ running a bit funky after some mud/water?

yea, it sounds like something's sort of slipping or not connecting quite right. hard to describe.

anything I can do myself to un-gunk it?

Re: FJ running a bit funky after some mud/water?

Should I just aim at right at my pulleys and hope for the best?

I was a bit scared of screwing up some electronics if I just opened the hood and inserted the power washer.

yea, I'm being a big ol girl about this. thanks for being patient

(on the plus side, I might have some fun video soon from this last trip)

power washer.

The electricals that run the FJ are sealed. Have at it.

Re: FJ running a bit funky after some mud/water?

i know EXACTLY what you are talking about, same thing, same whining noise, at idle and when you press the gas pedal in a little, wash it out: it will eventually get better, i went to TOYOTA and had them replace my MUDDY belt, clean and regrease all pullies,
