"FJ Cruiser" instead of "Land Cruiser" lingering regrets?

I know this was a big issue when the FJ came out (at least for me) but does anyone still wish the FJ retained the "Landcruiser" name? I still want it and hope in vain that Toyota will see the light and put the "land" back in the name.

Also, I'm looking for a support group of folks that just can't let this issue go

Re: "FJ Cruiser" instead of "Land Cruiser" lingering regrets?

The 'Landcruiser' name, like others applied to very nice, utilitarian
vehicles, has migrated away from the latter and now and forever will
be synonymous with bloated, gigantic, over-priced luxury monstrosities
whose only use is as status symbols for bleached-blonde soccer moms
and trophy wives.

Let it go. (It was a ripoff of 'Land Rover' anyway.)

If it makes you feel better you can add a few emblems on it.40 Series Emblems

Then if you really want to feel better about its Landcruiser heritage Landcruiser Heritage Minisite and scroll through the timeline. You'll notice the FJ C is featured as part of the Land Cruiser Heritage.

I don't see Toyota ever dropping the existing Land Cruiser to rename the FJ; that would be a terribly marketing move. The way it is now, they're cornering 2 namesakes at the same time.

They could've called it the 4Runner Sport or Landcruiser Sport to join the glorious ranks of Montero Sport or Isuzu Rodeo Sport.

I think they made the right choice.

Re: "FJ Cruiser" instead of "Land Cruiser" lingering regrets?

I was just reading in a marketing book today. "Sometimes a brand is dying and cannot be saved. The best remedy is euthinasia." I think it was a smart move on Toyota's part not to associate the FJ with the current beastly land cruiser. Also it communicates a company moving forward, not constantly looking back.

And that's why the FJC is not based on a retro design!

I'm just messing with ya'll

Re: "FJ Cruiser" instead of "Land Cruiser" lingering regrets?

To me, the name "landcruiser" makes me think of FJ 40s and LC 70s, not the pampered beast that currently has the name here in the US. I still don't like the name "FJ Cruiser" though, they should have done something a la "Landcruiser Prado" like "Landcruiser Kalahari" or "Landcruiser Amazon" or some other cool name. Try as I might I can't let it go

Re: "FJ Cruiser" instead of "Land Cruiser" lingering regrets?

FJ Cruiser is an OK name. i remember at first i wish it had an LC badge on it but now, at this point... i wish it was JUST FJ. i think the only way the word 'cruiser' dosent sound gay is if the word 'land' is in front. otherwise it reminds me of a PT cruiser or like... some battery powered scooter for old people.

just my .02
