FJ Ratings

I've been reading some write up's about the FJ and I must tell you it upset's me too read all the bad publicity the FJ get's. Alot of the magazine's give the FJ 3 out of 10 stars in there ratings. First of all I think thats preety bad considering it's first and foremost a Toyota. What is everyones thoughts on this?? Do you all agree with this, and do you think the FJ deserves better? Is Toyota loosing ground in the US??

Re: FJ Ratings

The FJC is sold in a bit of a niche market. Not everyone will like it. ...but I think it is safe to say that 99% of the people on this forum REALLY like it

Re: FJ Ratings

Aint these the same writers that bestowed the Car of the Year to the Renault back in the 80's?

Re: FJ Ratings

Ratings are just opinions. The true test of a vehicle is based on popularity and quality over time. I don't need any reviews to tell me that the FJ is one awesome vehicle!

Re: FJ Ratings

I get all the car magazines C&D, R&T ant MT and never pay any attention to their final ratings. CR and CD also need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Its based on what their priorities are, and high gas mileage, 1.0G cornering force and 0-60 under 6 seconds is not what the FJ is about. CR loves the Honda CRV, now why would you get that instead of an FJ???

If anyone bought a car "solely" based on their ratings, they would be nuts!
They claim certain cars are a bargain at $70K, now how many people can truly afford those, may be retirees and company CEO's?

Re: FJ Ratings

Car ratings (I've decided) are like food and movies. Everyone has different tastes. People are always interested in my FJ and they start asking questions. Q:How does it do off-road? A:*****in'! Q:Is it comfortable to drive? A: Way more comfortable than my wife's german engineered car. Qoes it have enough power under the hood? A: Enough for me. Q: What Kind of gas milage does it get? A: 19-21 on the Highway, etc... "Well that's horrible gas milage" and they lose interest. Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like the FJ kind of falls in the middle of SUV/CUV's in the gas mileage dept. and with the beefed up heavy frame, you'd expect worse. Green is vogue right now so if your car is not posting the highest MPG ratings don't expect to impress many people. I researched from Jan, to Oct this year, and probably read every review online at least twice. The reviews are as different as you and me. The tone of each all comes down to taste. It does seem however that any reviewers that actually took the FJ off the blacktop were not only positive about it, but down right excited.

Re: FJ Ratings

I could not care any less what anyone else thinks of the vehicle I drive.

It's real obvious what our friends think when they first see our new '08 FJC. A lot of them: "Did you buy this to commute with?" and "Why did you buy one of these?" Then there are the others that think it's cool and want to see it. Who really cares what anyone else thinks? That's the kinda mood I'm in today.

Re: FJ Ratings

The rags I have read tend to really bash the rear visibility (or rather lack of). I tend to agree with them. I love the car but I know how to use mirrors, but I have also seen idgiots stay in the blind spots for ever. Probably intentionally. These reviews are written for the masses of the readership. Is this a great car for some - yes, is this the worst POS Toyota made, for some - yes.

This is not a vehicle I want everyone on the road driving while talking on the phone with a smoke in the other. This is an unforgiving car if you do not pay attention.

I have way more on my plus side then on the negative side for this car so far after a year and I do use the back seat daily.
