Study of FJ Owners with Symptoms of Advanced TBP
ABSTRACT
In this study, an average population of FJ Cruiser owners were photographically researched to determine the delta between their physical height, and the cowl height of their FJ Cruisers. As a tall vehicle, the study attempted to determine whether owners of this vehicle possesed matching traits.
INTRODUCTION
The popular FJ Cruiser was introduced in Spring of 2006. The vehicle is commonly modified heavily to improve offroad performance to suit user requirements. Often these modifications result in an increase in height of the vehicle.
With the vehicle's high forward sightlines, a potential danger exists when modified FJ Cruisers are driven by those with vertical impairment. We sought to develop an algorithm to allow such a vehicle/driver combination to be easily spotted among a general population. We felt that such a Method could potentially save lives, both on- and off-road.
This condition is known as TBP, for Telephone Books Please.
METHOD
A TBP diagnosis is made by comparing two measurements, and analyzing the delta between the two. The first measurement is the height of the individual FJ owner/driver. This is expressed as Owner Cranial Height. The second measurement is the height above ground of that owner's FJ Cruiser, or Body Cowl Height.
To determine the presence of TBP, Body Cowl Height is subtracted from Owner Cranial Height. If the result is lower than the acceptable range of 15" to 23", the subject is considered At Risk.
DATA
We performed indepth photogrammetric research of subjects on the FJCruiserforms.com website. Subjects were selected at random and are believed to form an average representation of the FJ Cruiser population. From the photogrammetric analysis we were able to extrapolate Owner Cranial Height and Body Cowl Height for eight subjects.
RESULTS
We were encouraged to find that seven of the eight subjects displayed no tendency towards TBP. There was one severe exception, who appeared to be able to stand upright in the front wheel well. However, studies have shown promise for advanced TBP patients with a suitable number of telephone books provided, and as long as they do not participate in professions like Accountancy.
