Anyone else out there having a difficult time waxing your Black FJ and keeping the swirl marks away? Some of those scracthes don't dissappear, but the others that do leave an even uglier sight....SWIRLS! Anyone have any wax tips, product recomendations, or ideas?
the damage is done it sounds like. You need to get it buffed out. I learnt the hard way with my black lexus.
Tip #1
Don't use car washes
#2
if you use a glove spend a good amount of time cleaning it before the clean. Rocks get embibed in the mitt, when you wash you scratch.
#3
Use lots of water during the wash. make sure that mitt is always dunking in the water to esure new rocks don't collect on the mitt
#4
Make sure that water is clean
#5
rather then circle strokes I like to go left to right.
Hope that helps.

same problem as you. A good way to buff it out is with a 3m product call finesse. You need a high power buffer that spinms at high rpms to buff out all of the scratches. If you wax it after you do that it should take away all of the buff marks and small scratches. All cars have it but its only dark colored cars that are really noticable. I have a scion xa that suffers the same problem. Lots of elbow grease and they will go away.

There is no way to avoid the swirl marks, etc. It is the nature of the dark color. They just are more noticible. That's why I don't buy black. I like black, but the marks bother me.

Not if you take care of the paint like mentioned in my previous post. I had a shop buff out the swrill marks a year ago. The paint looked brand new.... I took the reccomended steps to protect the paint. I sold that car 2 months ago for good $ with what looked like fresh paint. My advice is to get a shop to buff and wax it. From there, take the time to wash your baby.
Cheers!
