Factory Brand Oil?

Does anyone know what brand of oil Toyota uses from the factory? Is that brand of oil used by all of the dealers or do some dealers have deals with the oil manufactures to provide a certain other brand of oil? Also is the factory Toyota oil synthetic or a synthetic blend of some sort? Thanks.

Matt

Re: Factory Brand Oil?

Why would you want to use that as opposed to something like Mobil 1 syn or Royal purple type of oil?

I'm just curious what the factory uses for oil and how the whole dealer thing works as far as oil is concerned.

What's not that good? drums or Valvoline?

Edit: If your car stereo is loud enough, you won't hear your engine failing...

Re: Factory Brand Oil?

I just like putting my own oil in so i know exactly what they are putting in. When i see oil changes for 19.99, it makes me seriously wonder what type of quality oil and filter you are getting for 20 bucks. Trust me, dealers are not putting in the most quality oil you can buy either. They are usually scam artist in the first place (esp when it comes to advertising) so what makes someone think they are putting the best of the best in peoples engines?

Valvoline. It's a "meh" oil.

Our dealership puts in Mobil oil. I know because i write the purchase orders for it. It is not Mobile 1, just mobil. That means it is not synthetic just regular dinosaur oil.

On the other subject, Toyota says they do not recomend nor discourage synthetics. They also don't endorse a specific brand. When we look up, for example, what oil belongs in the rear end on a tundra, it will say hypoid api gl-5 75w90. Toyota does not bottle their own gear oil so it is left up to the dealer what they use as long as it meets those specs. We have asked what brand is factory fill and never gotten an answer from them.
