I've been running 89 gas. Since my 6" lift and 35's power is a little lower. I filled up with 91 yesterday (empty tank) and the little puppy is running like stock. Am I dreaming?
You've probably gained something with the better gas as the ECU will adjust timing to maximize power while avoiding knock. I have no idea how noticeable it would be but I would guess it would take a full tank of gas for the ECU to adjust completely.

When you run lower grade fuel the ECU adjusts the motor so that it will not knock, which is detonation. The higher octane fuel detonates at a higher temperature than the lower octane thus alowing for a higher total compression before the spark plug fires. This is why you get better performance out of the higher octane.
If you do some full fuel tank testing you will find that you will get improved mileage enough with the high octane that it compensates for the increase in price, so you get beter overall fuel economy with the higher octane fuels even though they cost more per gallon.

I live in typo hell, excuse the typos
I didn't want to say anything as everyone knows I'm a premium fuel guy, but that happens to me in reverse everytime I have to buy regular (for whatever reason). I just hate it; I'll be out on the road somewhere and will have to buy what they have. Boom.. runs like crap with mileage drops..
I think a lot of it has to do with how we drive. If you drive around like a kid with a hotrod, which I sort-a do, you'll notice the decrease in performance much more than those that drive like responsible adults. You have to use the power before you know it's changed.. Anyhow.. JMHO.. Ron

Re: Is it all in my head????
10:1 compression ratio will always make more power with premium than with lower octane and retarded timing.

Have you ever seen a fuel tanker with premium written on the side? no, the guy filling up the regular gas tank just takes the hose over to the next to fuel types to fill them up. No change in fuel types, just the same regular fuel in all three pumps. so to answer your question, "it is all in your head"

Haven't there been threads about this already?
