I replaced my stock bumper with an ARB grill guard right after I bought the vehicle. Loved it. However, the other night I took out a chevy pickup and opened the passenger side up like a can opener. My bumper is toast and there was almost no metal left on the passenger side of the chevy.
Geico informed me that my ARB grill guard and PIAA lights would not be covered!
I was supposed to let them know and they would adjust my insurance.
Anyone have any suggestions or am I just gonna take it on this one? I will argue when I meet the adjuster this friday but...
Most insurance will only cover upgraded add ons if you cal and specify so they canadjust cover. I lost out on a set of wheels a while back due to the fact that I didnt specify with my underwritter.

I guess it depends on the insurance company. I check with my Allstate agent he said as longs as I have receipt for it they will cover it. Geico on the other end is the very strict company on their claims it is almost not worth the savings they offer. In the early 80'sthey were dropping clients because of their use of radar detectors, it came to a point Car and Driver started a campaign to boycott them .
Progressive covers up to a certain amount, either 1K or 2K in aftermarket parts without any additional riders.......Have been with them for 5 years...but use All State on the motorcycle as they rate the driver and not the type of bike.

That is the downside of discount insurance. You need to document all your mods, on paper and in photos, and provide your insurance carrier with that information. Discount carriers usually charge additional fees for extra equipment. Larger, full service carriers will usually cover (within reason) additional equipment you can prove was on the vehicle, with receipts and pics. (I've never been refused coverage on any of my equipment, and those who know me know I'm a gadget freak...)

Re: After Market Bumper & Insurance
That could get tricky.. As another poster mentioned, go for a stock replacement bumper. Even if you keep reciepts and notify them when you add things, most will pro-rate all add-ons for one year of service. They'll also use non-factory parts to save money. All I've ever been able to do was take their check and add my own money to get what I wanted. Remember, if it "ain't in writing" it probably won't happen.. Ron

I just called my insurance (State Farm) to find out the answer. Additional aftermarket accessories are covered under my plan as long as I have some documentation of the parts such as receipts or original packaging. While I was at it I finally asked them about glass coverage for the window for if/when I get hit with a rock. They said it fell under my comprehensive coverage which I had with a $250 deductible. I then changed it to a $0 deductible for only about $1 more per month. Sounded like a good deal to me.

Yes, that is a good deal. $100 was as low as safeco would go. Ask them if they pro rate your accessories and over how long. They pro rated my lifetime Borla exhaust over one year! Ron
