issue when stopped.

my wife has told me a couple times she was sitting at the lights with the brakes pressed and all of a sudden the truck surged forward and she hears a noise like the abs or something.
i thought maybe she was loosing it and since i drive the truck more than her i blew it off.yesterday night im sitting at a light and all of a sudden i thought i got love tapped or something and the truck surged forward like a foot and i hear the abs pump go off.wtf?
truck is an 07 auto 4x4.
wondering if anyone has experienced this as i refuse to go to the dealer since they left my drain plug loose and oil stains all over the truck.
btw(aurora toyota in ontario canada-disaster dealer from the first second i walked in-stay away.).if its a recall or something i will drive out of town to the next dealer.
thanks for any help.

Mine has been doing it for two full years now. I have gotten used to it, although my wife is still bothered by it a little.

The only lunge I get in my Taco is when I shift from park to drive (auto).

Absolutely nothing in my Moms 03 Sequoia. Its got just under 80K problem free miles. The only gripe on it is the leather is cracking, and the rear tailgate window has not worked since it was purchased.

Re: issue when stopped.

The other thread that was linked above talked about it happening only when the A/C was on. If this is the case with yours then chances are it's normal. Everybody has the tendancy to not hold the brake down as hard after the the vehicle is stopped, so when it idles up a lil to compensate for the compressor load, I'm sure it lunges. I'll bet it deosnt happen when stopped on an incline because the brakes are being held tighter.

It is kinda scary to think about, but the driver has no control over the throttle. We have a fly-by-wire system, meaning the vehicle gets a signal from your gas pedal and desides electronicaly how much to open the throttle.

Re: issue when stopped.

What was the sound like? A little motor purring, sort of a whirr in the middle of the cowl? Ron

Re: issue when stopped.

im a technician for vw for a living so im well aquainted with drive by wire systems and such.
my foot was well on the brake, the brakes definetly released and the car "lurched" forward about a foot.when it came to a stop the abs pump kicked in for a second and i felt it in the pedal.
i did a system scan on it,no faults.btw its -10deg c here and obviously the a/c is not on.
ive had a similar issue with a vw in the past and it came down to a tcm software flash.
i just wanted to know if there is a correction for the issue so i dont waste my time as usual at toyota having them say "vehicle as per manufacturer specifications at test time",then getting into my truck with greasy fingerprints all over it.being in the trade it burns my anus.
does anyone know what the software level should be on a more current tcm?

Re: issue when stopped.

There are several threads about this and it does not only do it when the A/C compressor is engaged (A/C and defrost). If I come to a stop a little slower it doesn't not happen. That's why most folks are thinking it's the Auto tranny shifting after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.

I test drove a Volvo a few years ago and the tranny basically went into neutral under hard braking to help the vehicle stop faster.

Re: issue when stopped.

The FJ does push a little. The is the only AT I've owned for 30 years, so I wouldn't know if it's normal ot not, but on mine you'd better keep on the brake.. Ron
