Arrow My FJC, his FJ60, and the vast desert...

Here is the situation. I've had my FJC for about 8 months now. I've had my share of adventures and I love sharing the photos and video with family. As a result, I've motivated my brother-in-law to bring back to life his early eighties LC FJ60. It has been sitting for a couple of years with a leaking carb and smog pump issues. He is determined to fix it in the next couple of weeks and wants us to do a run very soon.

He is the most mechanically inclined person in the family. I will trust his judgment on the condition of his rig BUT part of me is hesitant to drive 3 hours into the desert and have this thing breakdown.

What would convince you that an old rig is trail ready?

The carbs always put up the most trouble but if he can get that fixed and everything is running well i would go for it. Its a toyota and even if it does break down at least you have your FJ to get you home I say go for it

Enough room to haul him home.. If he thinks it's ready and you can haul him out, go for it.. Ron

I think I'll talk him in to a few local runs before getting out in to the desert. I want to see that thing in action before we are in the middle of nowhere.

The carb is the big issue and I am sure it just needs a little tune up and love. But I wouldn't hesitate to take it out once the carb was fixed I wouldn't even worry to much about the smog pump thats not that important.

Confidence and Trust must be earned.

The Big Question - Is it deserved?

It's Family.

Either way, it's an Adventure.

Hehe, I've never heard that before, but it's the truth!

I say if he's comfortable with it, you should be too ... happy wheeling!
