Unhappy What would you do?

hey folks! what would u do if you purchased an fj a few weeks ago and got it home only to discover the rear door and bumper were pitted by tiny rocks or something. it kinda looks like chips. i got with the dealer and showed them before purchase, they said it was new and would be like new when i bought it. they had the paint spots touched up by a guy that goes around to different dealers and does touch up. the spots are small, but still noticeable, i know i will be getting paint chips eventually, the bumper is factory, and id like to replace it with an aftermarket 1 later. the dealer said he doesnt want a bad report on the survey and asked if id take some accessories i.e. rock rails, or roof rack. he said he would do that if i could live with the bumper and give them all excellent. how many accessories do you think i might be able to squeeze out of them. what would you guys do??????

i asked the dealer about the rock rails he mentioned,,,,now he says they are gonna order my bumper......I guess the survey wont get filled out after all....LOL

Re: What would you do?

Pics? I'd need to see how bad the damage is. If it's only minor, I'd tell him to throw a TRD CAI, and some rock sliders, if it's MAJOR, I'd say gimmie that supercharger .

Re: What would you do?

That is weird! If you had just said the bumpers or wings I would have said, rattle can the stuffin out of it. That way you can touch them up yourself. The back door though is a different animal. I don't get that one at all. I have chips but my rig is over 18 months old and I know that I did most of them. I would have to say though, it is an FJ and if you intend to keep it for the long haul, I would take the dealer trade on accessories. You can always touch up the door. I would go for the rock rails and the roof rack!!!

Re: What would you do?

You could milk them for all their worth. Rails are not that great imho. How about a set of steelies and some rubber mats? The dealer is trying to buy you. They are buying a good rating from you. Will the rating help others much at all or are the goodies worth more to you?

well personally i'd just hit it with Krylon and be done, but thats me honestly though see if they'll throw you some rubber floor mats (if you dont already have em) but i'd really really reccomend giving them "all excellent" on their survey. it sounds really gay but dealers (and sales reps) fear a bad reportcard more than anything because it effects the reps paycheck, and often times the dealers kickback from the manufacturer. a negative survey *can* get a salesman fired. i used to sell cars. it is a dirty slimy buisness and anyone with common sense dosent stay in the buisness long, but even some without the common sense to leave are still trying to feed families and that stupid survey may be a platform to vent your frustrations, but will do nothing to solve your problem (be it paint chips or a bad experience or whatever).

end soapbox (can you tell i've seen people get kicked in the teeth (not literally) over somthing as stupid as a survey?)

Re: What would you do?

Hmm! Guess it depends how greedy you wanna get. Like someone else mentioned I would also need to see the damage. But if your gonna try to get something out of the dealer have him swap the tires for a more aggressive tread like the BFG all terrains or even have them install an OME lift kit.

If he's only willing to give you OEM accessories I would opt for the Rock Rails and possibly the Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness.

Good luck!
