Re: Gas Prices!

I run 89 or even 87. No problems here. The 91 requirement was an error and it was corrected by a subsequent bulletin. It's ok to use 87.

Re: Gas Prices!

Was it an error or just not a requirement?

I thought that 91 is still recommended but that 89 or 87 is ok although not suggested.

Re: Gas Prices!

I have been using 89 since I bought my truck last April with no problems. On a full tank I can go ~280 miles before the gas light comes on (and I am running stock).

Re: Gas Prices!

I noticed I get the FJ lunge more often when I use 87, but it could just be me.

I've been using 93. I don't think we have 91 around here. I may drop down to 89.

Re: Gas Prices!

I've been using 87 90% of the time. I did a 5 tank (of each) mpg comparison between 87 and 93 way back when. Less than 1 mpg difference. Runs great and no problems on the 87. A Toyota tech rep told me the published HP rating was obtained on 93 octane, and that's why the book recommends it. It WILL NOT hurt the vehicle to run 87.

Re: Gas Prices!

You know, figuring when you fill up on empty you put in 16 gallon and a $0.12 diff between 89 and 91 octane, it's only $1.92 more to fill up with 91. I don't think you'll find octane booster that cheap. Even the $3.84 difference between 87 and 91 isn't much on a 16 gallon fill up.

Re: Gas Prices!

It shouldn't really matter, as others have said. Nothing saves gas like keeping your foot out of it, but who wants to do that Ron

PS: Also, but the spouse a more economical car and ask them to drive less. That's what I do

Exactly...do the math...you won't save anything using octane booster...I find the increased milage worth the couple bucks more at fillup to use the 93.
