Re: Mounting Fuel Gauge and 3 switches in Left Vent Panel

You are correct, less than 30 seconds and you know. I guess you could say that I was just lazy, mount a double rocker switch or a switch and a gauge.

Re: Mounting Fuel Gauge and 3 switches in Left Vent Panel

I have the phantom gauge. Not sure what you mean about the perimeter lighting. Can't really tell from the Summit Racing site how these gauges are lighted.

I installed them myself and I got a on/off flat toggle with a "BRIGHT" blue led light (I think at pep boys). I put it just to the right between the two gauges. (sorry, no complete pic yet!!) I got the angel adapters from "autometer" to fit those gauges. If you pull out the trim panel you will notice there's not alot of room and I didn't want to drill out the entire backing. I also like them because they are angled right at me when I'm driving.
If you are mechanically inclined at all you shouldn't have any problems modifying the panel. I am thinking about changing the two gauges to the autometer's "pro comp II". They are black all the time and they look more like the factory gauges, except they are black. They have a brushed aluminum bezel that matches the rest of the interior, and at night I'm not sure I like the "perimeter" lighting. And the pro comp II's light through the gauges. The jury is still out on this one. I also know you can combine the Sender's but I like being able to see both tank's at the same time, especially since when you fill them your filling both at the same time. If you toggle the gauges between sender's doesn't it take a moment to "catch" up to what's in the tank?

Perimeter lighting is where the light come to the front of the gauge from around the outside edges with regular bulbs. All of Autometers "II" series gauges use "LED" light and put it through the gauge like the FJ's Dash lights.

Thanks. I chose the Phantom due to the white face matching the FJ fuel gauge along with the black bezel. I guess I will have to see what I think about the lighting once it is wired up.

Re: Mounting Fuel Gauge and 3 switches in Left Vent Panel

Back in March I talked with Mr. Steve at MAF about how I made the fuel fill tube on my system so that I can fill front tank or rear AUX. tank. I wanted to have the control over when or if I was putting any fuel in the rear AUX. tank. With the MAF system you are on a over flow system from one tank too the other. They may change after they use up some of the stock pile of fill tubes. If you make it too Ouary for the Summit I can show you what I have done.

With the angled gauges, what interference behind the cover did you have to cut out? I can't tell looking at the third picture what/if anything was cut out.

I've got two "2" gauges and 1 switch for my back fuel tank (from MAF) on the left panel. You just have to cut a couple of relief holes to get everything in line. It did help that I angled the gauge so most of them are not behind the bezel. I put the switch in after I took these pics. It's to the right of the two gauge and in between them.

Re: Mounting Fuel Gauge and 3 switches in Left Vent Panel

Do you see those 4 holes in pic #3? Those were necessary to clear the mounting screws for the brackets. You can see those in pic #2. Then I ran the wires through to the open area to the right. Leave yourself plenty of extra wire if you every want to take the panel off again. You might also have to bend the wire connectors on the back of the gauges down a little to clear too. Just do it gently.

I thought that you would have to remove more! Looks like those hole were for the top gauge? I guess that angling the gauges really helps. Definitely a good idea about extra wire.

I see it now. Two holes for each gauge.
