Question Need Your Help Guys - Wiring Question

So as you saw, I wired in my alarm from hell last Friday Actually it wasn't that bad, but I stupidly broke the red/green wire that is part of the main vehicle harness. Now for those of you that have seen the alarm install instructions, you remove the red/green wire from the pin retainer that plugs into the front of the steering column (which also houses other wires probably for things like the radio controls and cruise control, etc). That wire is supposed to be removed, then plugged into an empty harness supplied with the alarm that feeds back to another red/green wire (which goes back to the alarm I think). The alarm comes with another red/green wire which plugs into the steering column in place of the vehicle harness wire.

Okay..so my question is....since this vehicle harness wire is now separated from the pin that is supposed to plug into the alarm harness, would it be safe to just cut this harness off and connect those two wires directly? I mean...it looks like it's just connecting a red/green to another red/green via a fancy harness with no other wires in it. Is the harness really needed for that particular piece? Need help guys. I just drove to Jersey with my steering column exposed and no horn for the whole weekend.

I'm still just a member with a miniscule 53 posts, work gets in the way of so many things.

Re: Need Your Help Guys - Wiring Question

so here's a picture. The red circle is the empty harness that came with the alarm. It simply connects the two red/green wires that you see on opposite ends. The end with the electrical tape is obviously the end that I botched (in yellow). Green is where the alarm's red/green wire went. So my question is....I didn't screw anything up too bad right? I got momentarily scared sh1tless when I called the dealer asking for a new clip and he said "there's nothing serviceable on a wiring harness. You'd need a new vehicle harness." Oh ok. So I just need to re-wire the truck and pay 2K or so?

But yeah...HELP!! Can I just cut this foam-covered retainer thing out and use two connectors on the bare wire, and connect them that way? Thanks guys...

Re: Need Your Help Guys - Wiring Question

Why not just splice in an extra length of similar guage wire, connect the two "broken' ends and plug it in where it was meant to be plugged in?

well the clip that is going into the 'empty' harness that came with the alarm is the vehicle harness one that I broke. It broke pretty much at the clip, so there's not a lot of extra wire to play with.

Can you unclip the broken clip from the rest of the harness??

yeah I can get it out. Problem is trying to open it up....it's really smushed down and I can't get it to open up.

Is the foam connector in this case doing anything that I'm unaware of, or is it just an easy way to connect things by plugging them in?
