vin # decoding

who knows how to decifer the VIN # to tell what number your FJ was off the assembly line, is it as simple as refering to the last several digits...mine is 21,000 and change.

TEJ - the last several digits are the vehicle serial number. This is as good as any way I know to determine the order off the assembly line.

Thanks Kansas, so there is no "code" in the VIN, only a serial number that you would need to reference to a list?

The last five digits of the VIN will be your production number.

There's a VIN number thread already someplace.

I'd like to know what the rest of the numbers mean.

Here's a basic overview from Toyota: http://fleet.toyota.com/html/vin_decoder.asp

Some of these are dated, but it'll get you close: http://www.answers.com/topic/toyota-...ion_3:_Vehicle

I miss how the old Land Cruisers had the FJ designation in the VIN.
