So what is the stock 17" rim width, and 285s are good?
gonna put 285s on before lift, good idea or bad?

so far sounds okay....

peace,
smk...

Best to wait for the lift.

Re: If you are running 285/70/17 on your rig read this post!

i ran 285/70/17's for about 6 months before getting my lift. i had minimal rubbing when turning wheel sharply and sometimes when really digging my wheels in while on trails. (body mount rub). if i had to do it all over again i'd wait until lifted to get the bigger tires. i have my 3" lift on now and theres PLENTY OF ROOM and no rubbing. no need for spacers and such...but i'm still running my stock wheels.
good luck

I would wait till after the lift if it were me. I got my lift first and then just put 285s on my rig last weekend. No rubbing.

No rubbing from me either with 3" lift 285/70/17 Goodyear MTRs on stock rims with moderate to heavy wheeling.

I waited for the lift before I got the tires, so no experience, but if you're planning on wheeling, I'd wait.

Ditto on everyone elses response. Lift then tires. I have 285's (AT's) and 3" lift and have plenty of room. Wthout the lift it is too tight IMO.

Re: If you are running 285/70/17 on your rig read this post!

OEM alloys x BFG MT 285 70/17's x Donahoe Coilovers x OEM UCA'a

I've rubbed the paint off both UCA's over the last two years but there has never been any visible tire damage so I don't worry about it too much mainly because 99% of the time any rubbing occurs I'm aired down. Pretty sure the rubbing is just during full compression and a little beyond. However if someone could post up a diagram of the FJ front end it would be interesting to theorize as to what stresses are undertaken by the other suspension components when the UCA gets a good thwack?

The topic was UCA rub concerns, correct?

Chalk me up as another one with this configuration. 3 inch lift + 285/70/17's = Plenty of Clearance.
