Re: CAI snorkel and extra battery

yup a few of us, I have only to run wires to the battery. it's a tight fit for the dual battery tray and the CAI. check out Dirty Parts Or PM cruiserlarry for the kit, and they can give you the lowdown on where to cut. nothing major, just about a quarter inch on the front of the tray where a bolt tab sticks out.

FJfunjunkie, did you install the snorkel to the CAI the same way that Shadow did? With the pvc and that rubber fitting?

No, its so much easier to install the snork and it's tube into the CAI straight in then use clear RTV caulking to seal it up. You cant start it for at least 12 hours after though. MudLoving tried the rubber fitting route and it kinda shifted the CAI box which kinda sux if you are gonna fit a battery in the other space. Just make sure you caulk the tube on the outer fender side before you put the inner fender skin on or you will be buying another set of clips to do it later if you really want a good seal. BTW they are hella cheap at cragen auto parts, you get a box of em for a couple bucks as opposed to 2.99 each at toyota. I had a post awhile ago with the size. PM me if you need the info, I'll check the garage tomorrow.

Re: CAI snorkel and extra battery

Silicone will not hold up over time - it will dislodge from the rubber. I recommend using butyl rubber, which remains flexible through extreme hot or cold, and will keep the seal watertight...

Ahh, okay, i think i had saw maybe Dragon had done something like this a while back. So you seal the tube to the outer snorkel portion first, then seal it up to the CAI box? How do you get the silicone/rubber sealant around the bottom side? ( isn't it a tight fit right there)

Just pull up on the tube and apply it liberally underneath, then let it down and caulk the H E double hockey sticks out of the rest. once you got it all filled in, have a cup of water with alot of dishwashing soap to dip your fingers in and smooth it out. keep a rag nearby because if any of the butal rubber sticks to your finger you will be pulling spiderwebs of it. keep dipping your fingers and smoothing it out. And have at least the recommended dry time before you start the engine. also seal the other side of the box where the fitting goes through to the intake tube to the engine side.
