My wife just sold 4 lbs of them today at the farmer's market.
She'll be out again tomorrow.
It never fails that every time I get on her about going back to work she will come up with a way to make an extra $500 that week. Morels from the woods, asparagus from the ditch, assorted goodies from the garden, etc.

I have very fond memories of mushroom hunting in a large cow pasture down near the Hilo Zoo in Hawaii. It was on the flight path to the Hilo airport. You'd be standing there and 747s would be coming in for a landing , and it would be right in front of you. Pretty awesome!! As were the shrooms. Talk about seeing things!!
Those were the days! Here in florida the farmers use a built in fungicide in the feed to stop the production of the Muskativia spores from growing!!! No harm done unless you ate the wrong type which could blow your liver out if you survived! There's several varieties are good eating but can easily mistaken for the Silicibi'n variety which will bring you into or out of reality!

Nice to see a fellow mushroom hunter.
It has been a pretty good year for morels here...I don't need the fj since my patch is just a short walk from the house. It is tempting to think about hunting the other wild mushrooms but the thought of a lingering death from fulmanant liver failure has always deterred me from learning too much about it. Morels are pretty safe and delicious
Where are you located?, the mushrooms in your pictures have a darker rim than the two types of morels that we have here...at first I though that they looked like false morels.
The morels in the photos are the typical black morel found in northern lower michigan. They are Morchella angusticeps to be exact. Most folks are familiar with the common white or yellow morels, Morchella esculenta. The blacks can be found in the same places as the whites, but they usually come out first. Obviously the black morels are harder to hunt due to their superb camo. The blacks generally have a stronger smokey/earthy flavor.
Hindsight, good to hear you like the hobby too. I really encourage you to branch out and learn about other edibles. There are a large number of common edibles that have NO look alikes at all. The variety of textures and flavors rival those of fruit and vegetables. Have fun out there!

No, that is not Toledo, but I have found them here as well..... but only white morels. The photos are from my cabin in Grayling Michigan. Grayling isn't the greatest morel area, but go a half hour in any direction and you are in morel heaven. Grayling is great for other species.... Chanterelles in particular.

Lol, I figured the title would turn some heads! I tend to stay clear of the magic shrooms. A little too intense for my taste! For sure a bad idea to drive if you do decide to go vision questing.
You guys would be surprised to know how many wonderful edibles are out there. Also, the best spots are often in remote, rugged areas so wheeling and shrooming go hand in hand. I just wheel around until I find a spot that looks good, then I get out and hunt. Once I'm tired of walking, I just hop in and do it all over! Most people are totally ignorant of the amazing variety of taste and texture in the mycological world. I pick and store FAR more than I can possible eat. I usually sell or gift all of my surplus away. If there are any gormet buffs or shroom lovers who want some really good shrooms that you can't buy in the store, pm me and I'll hook you up proper. I don't ever sell or gift mushrooms that have dangerous look alikes, so you don't need to worry about dropping dead after your meal. I consider myself an expert amateur, and I take identification very seriously....going to the microscopic level if needed. I'm sure I'll have more pics of great trails and great shroom harvests to share with you guys. The season is just starting here and it doesn't stop until the first hard freeze!
Very cool post! I love mushrooms and will use them in cooking as often as I can get away with it at our house. I love to grill the caps with a little cheese in them!

I can hook you up with some awesome shrooms if you are interested.
