Re: Wife wants to Swap FJ for 4R : (

I traded in my 4runner for my FJ, but if I could've kept it I would of. I loved it and it's a great truck. If you're hauling 3 kids in car seats, you're probably better off with a traditional 4 door.

Tell her you'll get the 4runner if you can add a lift and put some bigger tires. Congrats on the lil one.

Re: Wife wants to Swap FJ for 4R : (

I have thought about stuffing three seats back there--one booster and the other two convertibles....but, have not tried it.
I am on board for keeping the FJ and I have thought about selling my GTi and taking over the FJ as my Daily Driver but then it falls back onto the whole 16/20 mpg (avg. commute is 60mi. round trip) and med sized monthly payments with three kids kinda thing...not stoked about that thought!
The wife has also explained to me that she will NOT drive anything that has a mini or wagon name attached to it. Which I think is hilarious!!

If you're looking to modify a 4-Runner, you need to consult with CROZHAWK since his 4-Runner is easily the equal of any FJ on the trail.

Perhaps a demo with two boosters and a car-seat might be in order then? Doing that might provide a quick answer to your question once and for all. It will either work or it won't.

My wife is the same way about "mini" or "wagon"! I dunno why either - she's not really a car-buff at all. But alas - who knows the mysterious ways of women... Gotta love 'em though!

Re: Wife wants to Swap FJ for 4R : (

Thanks Uphill I will look into his build I do love the look of the 4Runner built up but not sure if that will be a first thing on the list...

It really seems like a wal mart weekend...pick up a booster and do a fit check...have to look into the weight requirements for those though not sure if my 3y/o will meet them. Either way worth a try.

Finally, someone said it!

Thanks for posting the pics...it's always nice to see 4 runners in action.

Re: Wife wants to Swap FJ for 4R : (

I have had 3 car seats (boosters) in the back seat for my boys (9, 7, 5) and occasional friend.

I found that with narrow 13" booster seats everyone is happy and I don't have to help belting them in.

I use these: Fisher Price Safe Voyager booster seats and have been happy with them.

Re: Wife wants to Swap FJ for 4R : (

The 4runner, after a few mods, just like the FJ, is awesome offroad. I'd say go for it. I wouldn't want the half doors to put three little ones in the back seat.

CONGRATS on the new baby! Hope everything goes well.
