Already saw 4.22 per gallon of 93 octane in northern michigan. I have my Unichip custom tuned to run on 93 or higher on the A map and 87 on the B map. I'm keeping my FJ no matter what happens to gas. It is my daily driver and I love it!

With the gas prices rising why isn't the congress pushing for Coal to Oil for $55 a barrel?? Please call or write to your senators. I have, and am still waiting for the two Idiots we have in NJ to even reply but we need to put pressure on them to do something.
I thought about this before I bought my FJ this past sunday. Even though I might spend more in gas, I still thought it was worth it. I have no regrets. With that in mind, I just passed by a Beverly Hills gas station with $5.01 premium.
I'm in somewhat of a bind here as my FJ is my commuter for a 100 mile daily commute (50 miles each way). I have to fill up twice a week and this morning paid $4.29/ga or $65 to fill up. It's currently costing me $26/day just to commute and while I didnt think it'd make that big of an impact; it really is.
I had plans for very large mods for my FJ, but have scaled back my project plans considerably and now in the market for a 35+MPG used daily driver - Civic, miata, corolla, etc - before the price of gas goes over $5.
And from the latest analyst reports, there's no end in sight. Ugh.
The real kicker is that in Iraq and everywhere in the Middle East gas is like 49 cents a gallon do you all know why because we are picking up the rest of thier tab and paying these outragous prices all well got to pay to play.

I have used 89 octane (10% ethanol) for my last 4 tanks and my gas mileage has increased with each tank. Using premium I was around 16.75 mpg and I my last tank was 19.499 with the 89. I am driving the exact same route I always do, 70% highway & 30% city, with the same driving habits. Hopefully this trend will continue.

Re: Five Dollar Per Gallon Gas
That's why we should inflate the prices of our stuff that we sell them.. Oh wait.. We don't actually make things to sell them any more (information age), other that very high tech stuff.. Oh wait.. We practically give that stuff to them to be "our friends".. Gee.. nah.. just kidding.. LOL... Ron

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to macro economics, but seems to me that we do have a commodity that is in worldwide demand. That would be food. We need to up the ante on all food exports regardless of destination. This tariff (I think that's the correct word) revenue should be directly returned to consumers to offset the outrageous fuel costs. There are some logistic issues that would need to be worked out. The consumer would need to be issued some kind of a coupon with every fuel purchase so that the rebates could be properly allocated. That, or some other method to track the purchases. Fight fire with fire. There must be other goods we could use in a similar manner. One thing is certain, we must get the hell out of Iraq NOW! That war is bankrupting the country. Afghanistan too. It's now a matter of survival. I doubt even one of our representatives is feeling the pinch. More likely that some are actually bennefitting from the price hikes.
Like I said initially, I have no idea if any of this is doable or worth doing, but somethings gotta give. Time for a Manhattan type project to get the best we have working on a solution. I know we can do it and it would be so cool to put OPEC out of business and bring the troops home.
