2008 Last year of the FJ?

Yes I know there have been treads about R & D asking members about what they want etc in a new FJ, however I have to think with SUV sales down 25%+ and gas prices going no where but up...the FJ project must be on hold or even cancelled by Toyota by now.
The only thing i can see saving this project is a FJ Diesel Engine.

Discuss.

Re: 2008 Last year of the FJ?

i dont think they would cancel the project, the fj was made for offroaders and even with the price of gas people will still pay it to go offroad. even though its painful. also i think a diesel engine would be sweet first mod would be some stacks.

first mod would be some stacks.
2nd mod would be some air horns with a pull cord!

Re: 2008 Last year of the FJ?

Seriously though, I don't think Toyota would pull the plug that fast. There are alot of other vehicles out there that get worse gas mileage...like every full size truck and suburban/tahoe. That might scale back production but I don't think they would just drop it from the lineup that fast.

No reason to pull the plug. I can see them milking it and then dropping it, but not before 2010.

Why, so people could pay a buck fifty more a gallon than premium gasoline? Yep sounds like a solid idea.

Re: 2008 Last year of the FJ?

A 2 year production run is way too short. I would like to see a short run to help with resale prices etc but I can't see them dumping the FJ earlier than 3 or 4 years.

Re: 2008 Last year of the FJ?

A couple of days ago I talked to the salesman that I purchased mine from, and he said that they are still selling like hot cakes. I purchased mine in July07, and there weren't that many on the road at that time, but recently I have been seeing them all over the place. I wonder how long it is going to take before the dreaded "soccer moms" figure out that they made a bad choice.

Yeah, I think the Sequoia would be higher on the 'endangered' species list.

Re: 2008 Last year of the FJ?

If they continue w/the FJ, why don't they come out w/a regular gas model w/better gas mileage and a bigger gas tank?

It was never clear to me why the FJ engine "required" premium, but runs ok on regular. A better marketing plan in this day and age would be to increase the tank size (MAF proved you can add 19 gallons more under the rear) and run it on regular in a detuned (or hybrid) engine that gets better mileage to increase range and lower fuel operating costs.

Just my 2 cents on the topic.
