6mt shift points and around town rpms?

For those of you with 6mts, at what rpm are you typically shifting, and what rpms are you cruising around at?

I only have 900 miles on my FJ so I'm taking it easy. Unless merging onto highway, I typically shift at 2500-3000 rpms and cruising around town will stay in a gear that has me between 1700-2500 rpms.

I'll run up the tach once in awhile to avoid droning the motor at the same continuous rpm.

My mileage is improving with break in. My first two tanks of gas, I got about 15 mpg, but I'd say that I'm at about 17 combined driving now.

Re: 6mt shift points and around town rpms?

cruisin' around, what rpms?

Personally, I like to keep it between 1500 and 2000 rpm all the time. But if i'm quickening the pace pulling out and such, I take it to 3500 or so.
I usually shift one I get over 2000, usually at 2500 and up to 3000.

X3 on 2500-3000. Shift point depends on what I'm doing.... passing, merging, etc. I'll have to pay attention and get back to you.

Re: 6mt shift points and around town rpms?

Yea I tend to shift pretty tight. 2000-3500 for shifts. I sometimes skip shift (is that the proper name?) and bump up to fifth and sixth from 3rd when I'm on flat roads. Some times though I gotta press the petal.

Driving around town I keep the rpm's around 2,500. Motor is not racing but you do have the get up and go if needed with lugging the motor or having to down shift.

Merging onto freeways usually wind it out in 3-4th had drop it ino 6th when I reach freeway speeds.

I already posted in your other thread asking the same thing...but here it is again

I keep it under 2000 in city, except to accelerate...but shift before 3000
I usually keep it at 1200 doing 35mph...get 20mpg with my very heavy PIG.

Highway, I'll keep as low as it can stay going between 65-75...but don't have much control there...
MTs are great, can always skip gears...ATs always tend to shift Fuzzy and not the way I like.

Re: 6mt shift points and around town rpms?

I'll shift b/t 2500 and 3000 around town as well, and I keep it in 6th if I'm doing more than 50mph to conserve fuel.
