First $1000

Hey guys,

Just recently picked up an '07 6MT FJ. It came with a 3" Rough Country lift, TRD Exhaust, and the optional lights. I intend to put in a new receiver and backup camera. Besides tires and a receiver, where is my first $1000 best spent? I'd appreciate any input.

I'd also like an extra set of keys, where's the best place to get the blanks, and are they chipped and need to programmed by a dealer?

Re: First $1000

First $1,000.00 really depends on what you want to get out of the FJ.

Figure that out first and the rest falls into place.

Early 07 FJ's did not have a chipped key. If you key looks like this:

My new FJ key

You do not have a chipped key. You can blanks cut anywhere then.

After Monday and Tuesday even the calender says WTF

Are you going to be doing any offroading? I mean we could suggest chrome 20's and rubber bands if you took it to car shows. Or if you took it on road trips seat covers and stereo system etc... Completely subjective to what you want to do with it. Please provide more information.

Re: First $1000

I don't intend to do much serious off roading. Mostly, I'm going to be driving locally and doing occasional light off roading. I was thinking along the lines of performance/MPG. Thanks.

From what I've read on here 07-09 will break the engine mounts regardless of abuse. Toyota re-engineered Abd fixed the issue 2010 and later. Something to consider off you plan on keeping out for a while.

Re: First $1000

If your planning on offroading get yourself a set of rock rails to protect your rocker panels under your doors

Steve 07 FJ with almost enough mods

Honestly, fender bulges and blown rear diffs are more common IMO from the early FJs. Why not suggest one starts there as well? There are a few ideas for making the fenders stronger and obviously you can put in stronger gears in the diff...
