Arrow What FJ Cruiser parts fit other Toyotas?

I have a new to me 2007 FJ Cruiser and it's time to start building. So far I really like it. With that said and with a family of 4 (kids age 3 and 5) I can see us outgrowing the FJ. Either in a couple years or possibly sooner if my wife enjoys exploring enough to make bigger trips that we need more space.

I won't open the can of worms on what is the best replacement of the vehicles I'm about to list. That's a whole nother thread entirely.

What I would like to know is what FJ parts fit what. This way when I shift vehicles I can save a few hundred or even a few thousand $$$$ by pulling the mods and reinstalling them on the replacement rig.

I'm pretty sure parts have some fitment by at least:

2nd/3rd Gen Tacoma - Front shocks/springs, and ??
4th Gen 4Runner - Front/rear shocks/springs(different lengths and rates), and ??
GX470- Some front/rear suspension parts?

No idea but possibly some parts:

5th gen 4runner
1st gen Sequoia
GX460

Post up if you know of any parts that fit. We could possibly get a solid list going to help out Craigslist shoppers too on the used parts hunt. I know I'm asking a lot her so I thank you for any replies in advance.

I too would love to get a sticky on this.

First gen Tundra, Prado and Hilux should have some interchangeability too.

Re: What FJ Cruiser parts fit other Toyotas?

GX470, 4th gen 4runner, and FJ cruiser have all basically the same suspension. 5th gen 4runner has some minor lower eyelet spacer differences that can be overcome pretty easily. Keep in mind 2010 FJ and 2007 FJ are also slightly different in that same aspect as well.

3rd gen tacomas suspension is the same as 2nd gen taco.

No bumpers are going to be interchangable.

Well I put my ARB bumper from a 2008 FJ onto a 2014 FJ, so there is some interchangeability. Granted the stone plate/front ARB bash plate isn't the same but the rest was.

Re: What FJ Cruiser parts fit other Toyotas?

Slight differences in brakes between 5th gen 4runner, 4th gen 4runner, GX470 and FJC but they can all be swapped over as long as you do both calipers and rotors at the same time.

Brake pads are the same for FJC's, 4th and 5th gen 4runner, GX470, 1st gen sequoia, 2nd and 3rd gen tacos.

A trick is to match part numbers at online toyota part stores, or they even tell you what vehicles use that part.

On the bumpers I meant between non-FJC's. That's pretty cool you got it fitted though.

Good stuff. Keep it coming. I'll eventually compile the info and edit the first post with detailed info. Time permitting. Cross referencing part numbers and waiting to hear from people who have actuall tried things will be a long process.

A big one will be UCAs. In general it appears gen4 4R and GX 470 are good to go. Tacoma UCA seems to depend on the brand and ball joint vs uniball makes some sort of difference too.

Bummer on the bumpers. My FJC came with ARBs front and back. I was hoping at least the front might fit a 4Runner.

Re: What FJ Cruiser parts fit other Toyotas?

I am super interested in interchangeability of parts for my 2010 FJ, for a slightly different reason.

I am in Chile and there is the very distinct possibility of not being able to find parts. For example, there was a month or two after the 2010 earthquake, when shipments to the south of the country were slow to impossible because the bridges and highways were smashed.

Last year we had a two month long strike at customs, that held up foreign shipment of just about everything in to the country.

I also like to go play in the very rural Patagonia, where logistics to get a part can be several weeks as everything is shipped from Santiago. Also, Toyotas from Argentina are super common, but seems a lot of their parts are not compatible with parts on Toyotas sold in Chile.

By comparison, almost no one owns an American made car in the Patagonia because of the reliability and lack of parts. If an american made car broke down in the Patagonia, you would have to haul it out on a flatbed costing thousands of dollars, to somewhere they can work on it. It is basically Japanese made vehicles or nothing.

My best guess is that there are less than 1000 2010 FJ in the country. Perhaps a couple thousand FJ cruisers of any year. so, in a few years it would be highly likely they simply stop stocking parts in the country, once all the warranties expire (they still sell a 2016 here), and will ship everything in to the country as needed.

On the bright side, the Toyota hilux might very well be the most common vehicle in the country because there are entire fleets of them purchased by the mining industry, salmon industry, and so on and even the car rental companies keep them in stock to rent to those industries. Those fleets get renewed about every two years, and the Hilux are auctioned off really cheap and stay in circulation for decades. The 4 runner is probably the next most common Toyota in the country.

so, for all you preppers, take note. You might have a national emergency too, that makes parts hard to come by.

Big brakes from Lexus / 4Runner: StopTech true BIG Brake Kit for 400$ (DIY)

Of course, wheels are quite interchangeable too.

Inside you can interchange seats. Example: GX460 - Front and rear seat swap
