Re: What FJ Cruiser parts fit other Toyotas?
I am super interested in interchangeability of parts for my 2010 FJ, for a slightly different reason.
I am in Chile and there is the very distinct possibility of not being able to find parts. For example, there was a month or two after the 2010 earthquake, when shipments to the south of the country were slow to impossible because the bridges and highways were smashed.
Last year we had a two month long strike at customs, that held up foreign shipment of just about everything in to the country.
I also like to go play in the very rural Patagonia, where logistics to get a part can be several weeks as everything is shipped from Santiago. Also, Toyotas from Argentina are super common, but seems a lot of their parts are not compatible with parts on Toyotas sold in Chile.
By comparison, almost no one owns an American made car in the Patagonia because of the reliability and lack of parts. If an american made car broke down in the Patagonia, you would have to haul it out on a flatbed costing thousands of dollars, to somewhere they can work on it. It is basically Japanese made vehicles or nothing.
My best guess is that there are less than 1000 2010 FJ in the country. Perhaps a couple thousand FJ cruisers of any year. so, in a few years it would be highly likely they simply stop stocking parts in the country, once all the warranties expire (they still sell a 2016 here), and will ship everything in to the country as needed.
On the bright side, the Toyota hilux might very well be the most common vehicle in the country because there are entire fleets of them purchased by the mining industry, salmon industry, and so on and even the car rental companies keep them in stock to rent to those industries. Those fleets get renewed about every two years, and the Hilux are auctioned off really cheap and stay in circulation for decades. The 4 runner is probably the next most common Toyota in the country.
so, for all you preppers, take note. You might have a national emergency too, that makes parts hard to come by.
