Anybody being asked at the dealer to trade in your FJ

Twice now, my wife and I have been hounded by salesmen at the dealership if we wanted to trade in our FJ.

I made a recent trip to get something from the parts counter and was met at the FJ by a salesman as I was getting out of the vehicle asking if I wanted to trade in my FJ that day because he could give me a good price for it. We talked for a few minutes but I let him know I was not interested in trading.

My wife had to make a return trip (to return the parts I had bought because the moron at the counter sold me the wrong part) and then she got hounded by both a salesman and a customer about trading in or selling our FJ.

I know that they are getting harder to find since the supply of new ones is gone but I didn't realize they were getting so desperate.

think of it like being asked out on a date by someone you are not interested in: it is flattering, and you appreciate the asking, but, no thanks, I'm spoken for

I feel like a pretty woman when I go to my Dealer.

Yeah, I've been asked a few times too.

I responded with "only if you're willing to pay triple what it's worth so I can go buy a newer one with less miles and have enough cash left over to buy another one for my lady."

Nope I haven't been asked about it since I actually did trade it in on a Tundra 3 years ago.

I had someone ask me last time as well. I have an 07 Voodoo with hail damage and typical rust from NE winters. I told him $19,999 and its all his. He laughed and acted like I was joking. I paused and asked if we had a deal, his response was "You really don't want to trade it in do you?". I then said "how could you tell?". Funny thing is I feel like they are looking for a sucker as they say oh we'll give you a great deal and then 2 hours later you have the NADA and KBB offers in your hand thinking WTF. My thought is if you approach me I am now the salesman and you are my toy to play with.

Now you're making me wonder, especially on an FJ with alot of mods done. If any dealer salesman asks me I might just entertain them for giggles.

No way would I actually sell it though!

I get a least one solicitation in the mail a month. It goes in the shredder. No member of my family is for sale.

Re: Anybody being asked at the dealer to trade in your FJ

I have too many mods to get a reasonable value from a dealer, and I think they recognize that too.
Only on one occasion did I get the sales people asking about the mods when i stop for parts.
Otherwise i'm invisible when i stop for something, which is the way I like it.

Re: Anybody being asked at the dealer to trade in your FJ

I was talking to a relative that works at the dealership where I bought mine... he related a story of how a guy to whom he sold a new FJ a few years back (2014 maybe?), recently traded it in for $1200 less than he paid to drive it off the lot... and the dealership resold it within weeks for more than they sold it the first time.

That particular dealership isn't coming after me & mine (yet?), but I can see why some would want to.
