Re: Pushing my luck..

I went almost 19 at something like 395 miles.

But I ran out 2 weeks ago at 404. So now you know.

Re: Pushing my luck..

I drove till it was sucking fumes and put in a full 19 gallons.

Empty on my gauge means about 3.5 gallons left.

Re: Pushing my luck..

I drove from home down to Moab on a trip and I usually stop either in Dinosaur, CO or Loma, CO for fuel and this time I didn't. My light came on about 15 miles or so after I passed Loma and I kept going. I made it to Moab and filled up and it took something like 19.2 gallons. I drove for about 65-75 miles after the light came on. First and last time I did that.

Re: Pushing my luck..

yep, typically around ~4 gallons the needle is on E and the light is on, this topic is one that has been around and around the forum

I dropped my tank, took out the fuel pump and bent the arm down so it was half as far as originally, when sitting at the bottom of its travel from the bottom of the tank. Now mine comes on when only about 2 1/2 gallons left, making the light in mine actually useful. Yay.

The best fuel gauge I ever owned was in a Saab 99. That gauge read the actual amount at every portion of its travel and the light came on with exactly one gallon left, "pull over and buy gas now".

Re: Pushing my luck..

Get an Ultra Gauge and really cut it close. Once calibrated it is uncanny accurate to 0.1 gallons and calculates distance at current rate.

Go figure - all hardwired Ultra Gauges are sold out.

Only the BT OBD11 port Ultra Gauge is available.

Re: Pushing my luck..

My fuel tank light came on today with the needle on E and then I put in 14.4 gallons…

I felt slightly insulted. That's 4.6 gallons out of a 19 gallon tank - nearly a full QUARTER TANK - that is on the left side of empty on the gauge.
