buyers remorse

This is the first time I have ever paid sticker for a car. I usually go in knowing what the invoice is and make my offer, and as soon as they start with the sales bs, I'm out of my chair walking. I did get them to knock off 500 because I refused to pay an additional "administrative fee" (500) on top of MSRP. So, with that being a wash, I am essentially paying straight MSRP plus tax and tag, no other fees.

I have a paid off trade that they are giving me 1000 less than what KBB says it is worth. I sat in the car as I was cleaning it out and couldnt help but think I sould be getting more for it. However, they gave me the most compared to what I was offered from 2 other dealers. Papers are done and I take delivery tomorrow. I seem to be struggling with feeling like I am getting bent over the proverbial barrel due to the fact that I am paying sticker. This isnt my nature to buy the "newest thing out" and pay the premium. Hope this sulking feeling goes away after I take receipt.

It is a sliver 2 WD, convenience package, real lock, roof rack, steelies, all weather mats. Prolly get some wheels for it eventually.

Cheers.

Re: buyers remorse

Hey, you did alot better than those that got stuck with unwanted options, V.I.N. etching, undercoating, vehicle protection package, alarm system, aluminum rims, etc. As long as they didn't ding you for more than the 600 bux toyota tacks on for delivery, and 200 or so for a doc fee, then you are doing as well as most and better than some. I have heard a few deals out there but it is definately an in stock unit, and you have to take what it has on it.

Good luck with your new ride!

I have never been disatisfied with a vehicle I was willing to pay MSRP for.

It always feels good to get over on someone, or to get a good deal, but, the reason I paid MSRP for an FJ is that I plan on owning it 20 years from now. Not true with anything else out there except maybe the Ford GT 500 (but try $25,000 over MSRP).

I got KBB price after about 15 minutes of wheeling and dealing, but when I was cleaning out my car, I felt guilty. Here is an itemization of what I trade in needed to ready to sell.

New convertable top installed $2,500.
New Dual Mass Flywheel installed $1,000.
New ABS sensor/OB computer installed $2,500.
New leather seats $200 ea.

Not to mention scratches, dings and the like.

I think I got pretty lucky the new car manager was not there that day.

Re: buyers remorse

Hopefully, when you pick it up tomorrow you will see why you did it. You are not alone with paying MSRP. I did and many others did too. To be honest I bet some of the users logged on our jealous you are getting yours, and they are on a list still. I was there. Take it and love it! Congradulations! You will not regret your FJ!

Re: buyers remorse

not sure your point excactly, trading in a paid off your car is worse than paying MSRP - what do you want from the dealer? its a business looking for profit opportunities

please enlighten me on this comment? the offer stood independent of a trade.

my post was more of a vent than anyhting. That okay with you?

"its a business looking for profit opportunities". The truth is - it is largely a business looking to squeeze you out of every nickel they can while you're in their presence. I am not complaining about the dealer. I chose to pay sticker.

No it didnt. Dealer needs to sell your car. Sell it yourself, you get more and have more CASH on hand, gives you better bargaining power....once you say you have a trade you just showed your hand.

Feel enlightened or just more angry?

Vent anywhere you want.

Re: buyers remorse

Oh, I forgot - you were there. the offer was extended prior to any discussions about a trade. I decided, for a number of reasons, I didnt want to sell my car outright.

Now run along and walk backwards into the dealer. They are waiting for you to help them increase their "profit opportunites".

Re: buyers remorse

Wow, starting to remind me of this thread:
The FJ experience: Toyota vs Dealer....what to do now??

Sorry I don't sympathize with you, I love my FJ. Hopefully you do too after you get the keys.

Re: buyers remorse

The point your refusing to see is this...
You could have probably gotten at least 30% more for your car if you took the time to sell it yourself, maybe more (unless the dealer is an idiot and is taking a big loss on buying your car - why would he do that, do I really need to explain this to you?). Usually the dealer looks at this like a favor to the customer sometimes if you owe a lot of money on a car a trade can get you out of an ugly situation.....yours was paid for.

Your complaining about paying MSRP but you took CASH right out of your pocket to get rid of your old car....hence my original comment...what do you want from a dealer sounds like he did everything you wanted him to.

You paid MSRP and gave him a killer deal on your old car (something else HE can make money on)...get it!

I have walked "backwards" into dealers 13 times/13 new cars, NEVER had buyers remorse and always negotiate....green cash speaks volumes.

Sorry your so Bitter.
