Need help lowering roof rack.

ok, here it is. I have the RC 6 inch lift and 35 inch tires. Plus the factory roof rack. I'm starting a new job at a new hospital and the parking garage is only 7 ft (84inch) tall. My car is more than 84 inches. I did some measurements and if I lower my roof rack, you know remove the second level of the rack and lower the top close to the roof, the car will fit in the garage. I see that the rack is all bolts on but I might need to weld the front. What do u guys think, What is the best way to lower it? I don't want to remove it, I love the way it looks and don't want to get rid of my car. This car is mine until I die.

Re: Need help lowering roof rack.

There are a few threads here in this forum that describe how to do it, as well.

I've done it to mine, as well. Not hard, and requires a minimum of tools and time.

Re: Need help lowering roof rack.

One option is to make a mini-roofrack. In this thread; Complete Roof Rack Comparison , there is a link to here; All new Roof Rack Diet... Mine was a bit too big - IH8MUD™ Forums showing how to do that. Don't know if you want to do that as an option, it would maintain the stock look at least.

Re: Need help lowering roof rack.

Using the method mentioned in the previous posts, you will lose the front part of the rack (unavoidable).

But, you would still have the lower section that uses the center and rear mounts on the roof. A good compromise, IMO.

The only other options you have are to either A) remove the rack completely, or B) buy a lower-profile rack, such as the Gobi Stealth model (or something like it).

I design parking garages for a living code is 8'-2" if Handicap parks in the garage, if the garage is an older garage it may be lower.... Most signage has a factor of error taken into account maybe acouple of inches....And the 7'-0" measuerment is probably at a drain pipe... I would take a tape measure and find out for sure you might not have to do anything or avoid a certain area of the structure.
