ARB bull bar vs. deer

On the way to Disney via Reno last night my husband drove my FJ smack into Bambi's mom...then over her.

He says that when he made contact he was running about 55-60mph (I was asleep after driving for 10 hours already.) He's not used to driving my FJ, so he didn't slam on the brakes like I would have, and hit the doe dead center on my new ARB bull bar. And then 5 seconds later she went under both right side wheels as he was pulling onto the shoulder to survey the damage.

I got out, grabbed the Maglight, and went around to the front end only to find out that there is NO damage. I'm going to have to have a little meeting between a hammer and the license plate, but other than that there is NOTHING to show that we hit a deer. (Weeeell...there was a little blood on the bumper, but other than that and a teeny piece of skin on the plate, nothing.) Thank goodness we jumped on the $600 deal we found a month ago on Craigslist. Definitely saved us waaaay more than $600!

(BTW, yes the deer was killed. No I didn't take pictures of her. No we didn't just leave her in the middle of the road.)

Here are a couple of pictures of the "damage." The bumper didn't shift at all front to back or side to side.

I'm glad that is all the damage you got. I have the same bumper.

WOW! glad your all ok and doing well. Your so lucky! I mean didn't you just put that bumper on less than 1 month ago? Thats a great testament to the quality of the arb bumper!

... see you on the eighth!

Yep, been on for four weeks tomorrow. Count on my husband to use it first. I'm glad she went down and under and not up and over. That would have meant injuries for us and a freaking third new windshield in 9 months.

We'll definitely be there on the eighth!

Im sure having a lift and larger tires aided in it going under instead of over. I have the ARB as well and it is in my opinion the best all around bumper in the world. Glad to see no one but the deer was hurt and that the FJ is okay.

I have the same bumper too. Thanks for testing it out for us. Just kidding. Glad to know you two or the fj wasn't harmed, sorry about the deer though.

Re: ARB bull bar vs. deer

Its great to see that the ARB has justified itself. A deer through the windshield would not be good. Not good at all. At that speed, it could even total an FJ.

The source of this info says it was from the State Farm Insurance website. It is easy to see why insurance rates are what they are when you see this info.

Re: ARB bull bar vs. deer

Deer are a menace where I live also. I hit a 8 pointer in my pickup going 35 mpg--didn't even have time to break. The damage to the front of my 1/2 ton truck was $2158.00

Guess if I had been in my FJ it wouldn't have cost me anything. Oh---the deer was dead on impact.

Re: ARB bull bar vs. deer

Glad that all are OK. This is the exact reason that I purchased the ARB for our FJ. Deer are like flies around here.
