Re: Attention: State Farm Insured Owners - Off Road Use

I just got off the phone with USAA. I was getting insurance on the FJ40 and they said I would be covered however, I should call their classic car/truck agent because normal full coverage would only pay a portion of the original selling price. What did a 1972 FJ40 sell for? She said with the other coverage keep all receipts and document the condition and then I would be covered for the full cost.

Whew, I can't give you a documentable answer, but my gut says $3,000-4,000. I know that late models (1978+) were between $7000-$8500.

Re: Attention: State Farm Insured Owners - Off Road Use

I had the opportunity to talk to my State Farm Agent yesterday on a different matter (reinsuring my boat). I asked him about SF denying any offroad damage claims outright, and he said that it was "poppy****" and as long as I wasn't acting in a negligent manner (going down mountains at 80mph) that I'd be covered no problem.

A funny story... when I wanted to move my boat over to SF, he asked if I had any claims made on it in the past three years, and I did indeed have one last year. He had to call the claims agent and approve the coverage. He called me back and said that I "lucked out" and the claims agent had a boat at my same marina, and that he knew me! Turns out that it was the guy that I pluck him and his two kids out of the middle of the lake after they had jumped off their boat and had it blow away with out them on board. Karma is awesome!
