Re: Visibility Problems????

I downsized from a long bed Dodge Ram 4X4 extended cab pickup with a campershell. Compared to that, I think the FJ has great visibility!

Re: Visibility Problems????

I changed from a little Accura RSX and now feel like if I do miss something I can just go over it.

Re: Visibility Problems????

I just went from LA to San Fran, Rush Hour in LA, Crazy Califorian drivers just zipping in and out of the lanes, the only prob i had wad moving into a right hand lane, i overcame it by just leaning forward slightly and looking in the RH mirror and i could see ok.

Re: Visibility Problems????

I wish I had side markers so when I want to move right the yaris next to me knows I'm coming over.

I really don't think it's so bad though, I just use the mirrors and do a quick head turn before moving over. There are times I appreciate the low visibility -- hard to see out of means hard to see back into. A lot more private than a high visibility honda.

Re: Visibility Problems????

With the addition of convex round stick-on mirrors for the side mirrors and that "light sight" thingy that allows you to see traffic lights w/o having to lean foreword, all the blind spots are eliminated completely. I've never considered visibility to be a problem. Next I'm toying with the Idea of connecting front and rear mounted cameras to see behind better and to see the terrain directly in front of me when negotiating more technical terrain. They would give real time video on my stereo head unit screen.

Re: Visibility Problems????

Pffft... compared to my last ride, the FJ feels like I'm in a solarium.

The Vehicross had NO visibility behind the driver's head. At all. None. The VX in japan came with a backup camera as standard equipment, as well as a backup assist "wing" mirror sticking off the front of the fender. It looked like a airplane in-flight refueling prod in reverse. Really funny looking. The rear glass was 12" tall at the center - worthless for looking behind you, but also blocked out headlights nicely.

I had the fisheyes on my tiny VX mirrors and they stayed put for 5 years. They really make life much easier, they just don't work well at night. I can safely say that I'll never need them on the FJ

Re: Visibility Problems????

That Vehicross is crazy looking. I have never seen one. Who makes them?

Another question. What is the "light sight"? I have noticed the problem with being first in line at traffic lights.

Re: Visibility Problems????

The little mirrors are great. Too bad we don't get Euro-style mirrors here tho; I'll never understand why that's not at least an option (i suspect it's a conspiracy by the "objects are closer than they appear" labeling union)

The visibility in my old BlaZeR2 was comparable, but both are so much worse than the Cherokee I had; you could see everywhere out of that! I still can't believe they canceled that thing and replaced it with the Liberty.

Re: Visibility Problems????

Driving is not the hard thing. I have little convex mirrors. It's when you're reversing in a parking lot or if you're not at a typical intersection.

There is this one intersection on post where two roads meet but not at a 90 degree angle. One road crosses a larger one at an angle. You can't see oncoming traffic from one side due to the poor visability.

No doubt the FJ has some visability issues.
