i got a parking ticket in the city and the ticket said "4 door hummer". WTF.
The guy fetching shopping carts at the grocery store called it a hummer today, but he was impressed with it and trying to be complimentary so I couldn't snap on him.
My nieces husband, (a union electrician who regularly drinks the party cool aid) says to me "geesh Jim , should have got a hummer, buy American you know" To which I replied "WEll I could afford the hummer but then I would have no money left over for the numerous repairs"
Course then he sees my bike (Victory Vegas) and says to me. "Geesh Jim shoulda got an American Bike, you know, a Harley" To which I replied "Well I could have bought a Harley for what I paid for my custom Victory Vegas, but I didn't want to have to buy stock in exxon/mobile to keep a ready oil supply. Oh and FYI my Victory is MORE American made than Harley!"
Now all you harley guys.....back off..... I was just bustin his balls.

off topic, but this is on my mind. Last night I was at a Ford dealer and the sales guy was talking to me about the Raptor SVT, etc... and he goes off topic and asks me why I bought a "Jap" truck? How I should be supporting the American auto market, blah blah blah.
Ok, this is the second time in a week or so someone said this. In all the years of owning my FJ no one has EVER referred to my FJ like that. I find this sorta insulting personally. Yeah most of the insults listed here are funny and can be taken tounge in cheek but I don't know... when someone refers to my FJ as a "Jap" truck and then says I should be supporting American auto builders, it doesn't sit well.
Has anyone ever got this before? What's up with this attitude?
I'm at the Nissan dealer picking up a filter for the wife's sentra. So I'm leaving the store and looking at the new square box thing nissan makes that looks sort of like a scion xb, honda element. Don't know it's name? So I'm looking at it and the sticker and two sales guys shout over to me. "Hey we got 0% financing for 60 months on that blah blah blah." So I sez (with my lifted, demello bumpered, 33" tire, with winch fj parked right next to it.) "Oh I was just looking at the sticker to see how much it was gonna cost me to drive my FJ over it!"
They both burst out laughing!!! It was kinda funny, but I stayed all serious looking and said "I wasn't joking" I gave in a few seconds later but the look on their faces was priceless.

Break it down first. The "F" stands for the Type F Gasoline engine the switched to in 1954 from the original Type B. The "J" actually stands for jeep, which was a generic term for that style vehicle before it became a name brand. The first of its kind was the Toyota Jeep BJ, using the the Type B motor. The two digits that began to follow the FJ are specifying the series. It went:
FJ, FJ-40, FJ-55 and 56, FJ-60, FJ-70(never made it to the states), FJ-80, FJ-100, and the FJ-200.
Got this from WIKI answers but have read similar elsewhere.
Not an expert, but I knew I read the J does stand for Jeep
Ummm Actually the J stands for Japan. That comes directly from the Toyota Trail Team guys.

My friend and his family call it the monster.
My son cant wait to get his license so he can drive it (pick up girls)
His girlfriend thinks it's awesome and wants one
It's been called a PT cruiser (no longer refer to it using the cruiser in the name)
I've heard "Hummer want to be"
but mostly I've heard "What the heck is it?"
Although there seem to be a lot of FJ's in Columbus, not a lot of people are familiar with them.
They either love it or hate it.
